    Our client, a dynamic nonprofit organization dedicated to making a significant and positive impact on the mental health of the Illinois community, is seeking a skilled Benefits Manager to join them as they navigate exciting transitions and continue to enhance their benefits offerings for valued employees Their team is passionate, dedicated and driven by a shared mission, and this is an exciting opportunity to make a difference in the organization and in your community. The role is mostly remote but must be based in Chicago with the ability to go on site a few times per month.

    The Benefits Manager will play a crucial role in ensuring a smooth transition from the outgoing retiring manager to new leadership. This Benefits Manager will oversee a small team and manage the employee benefits program with a focus on maintaining high standards, exploring new opportunities and taking a proactive approach to the benefits lifecycle. This role involves close collaboration with their trusted broker, leveraging their expertise and applying analytical skills to optimize benefits offerings.

    Benefits Manager Responsibilities:

    • Manage a small team of 2 benefits/total rewards associates and spearhead their professional development and create opportunities for growth
    • Lead the open enrollment process for the upcoming year, collaborating with the broker to explore options and make informed decisions
    • Oversee the incorporation of a small subsidiary (5 employees) into the client's benefits plan, ensuring a smooth and efficient process
    • Evaluate the current benefits program, validate its effectiveness and identify areas for improvement. Roll up sleeves to understand existing systems and suggest enhancements or new approaches
    • Manage and optimize the relationship with the broker, leveraging their expertise to enhance benefits offerings and ensure they align with organizational needs
    • Apply analytical skills to assess the benefits program and make data-driven decisions. Have a strong opinion and the ability to implement ideas effectively
    • While specific software expertise is not required, familiarity with UKG systems is a plus. Utilize existing systems to their fullest potential and suggest improvements where necessary
    Benefits Manager Requirements:
    • 5+ years of progressive benefits experience with a strong understanding of the benefits lifecycle
    • 3+ years as a people manager
    • Ideally has experience in nonprofit or healthcare space, but not required
    • Bachelor's degree preferred but not required
    • Must be comfortable working with less sophisticated systems and able to identify and implement better processes and solutions
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess, validate and enhance the benefits program
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with the team, broker and employees
    • A self-starter with a "roll up your sleeves" approach, ready to dive in and make a positive impact from day one
