    Description

    Job Title: Construction Controller

    Location: San Diego, California (on site)

    Compensation: $160,000 to $175,000 (discretionary bonus)

    Position Overview: Our client is seeking a highly skilled Controller to join their esteemed construction firm in San Diego. The Controller will assume responsibility for managing the accounting department, overseeing a range of financial functions, and collaborating closely with executive leadership. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in enhancing processes and systems, particularly in areas such as extra work billing and intercompany transactions.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Oversee all aspects of financial reporting, audit, tax, 401K, payroll, AR, AP, GL, and equipment functions within the company.
    • Collaborate with the CFO and other executives to address strategic and operational matters, providing valuable insights and recommendations.
    • Implement improvements to existing processes and systems, with a focus on optimizing efficiency and accuracy.
    • Manage and mentor a team of at least five accounting staff, fostering a culture of growth and development within the department.
    • Coordinate with external auditors, bankers, and insurance providers to ensure compliance and facilitate smooth operations.

    Qualifications and Skills:

    • CPA certification or CPA candidate status with 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in private accounting, preferably within the construction industry.
    • Proficiency construction software platforms.
    • Extensive experience with consolidation, elimination, and intercompany accounting processes.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team effectively, driving high performance and results.
    • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills, with a keen attention to detail.
    • Proactive approach to problem-solving and deadline management, able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating effectively with diverse audiences and departments.
    • Willingness to work on-site with limited remote work opportunities.
    • Ambition to grow within the company and assume the CFO role in the future.
