Development Director - Los Angeles, United States - Community Water Center

    Community Water Center
Community Water Center Los Angeles, United States

    Default job background
    Description

    Location:
CWC currently has offices in Sacramento, Visalia and Watsonville, CA. CWC believes our mission can be effectively advanced while being flexible in our approach to work style and location.

We prefer candidates for this position to be able to work in-person at least two days per week from one of CWC's office locations.

However, we will consider candidates based in California on a remote basis as long as they have the ability to travel and report in-person as needed for mission critical work and key relationship building with other CWC staff, funders and other key parties.

Community Water Center acts as a catalyst for community-driven water solutions through organizing, education, and advocacy.

We seek to build and enhance leadership capacity and local community power around water issues, create regional movements for water justice in California, and enable every community to have access to safe, clean, and affordable drinking water.

At CWC, we believe that safe, clean, and affordable water is a human right, not a privilege.

Our organizing and advocacy work, community collaborations, and organizational culture all reflect a concern for equity, mutual respect, appreciation for diversity, and environmental and social justice.

We are looking for candidates who share our values, who bring a willingness to contribute to our mission and to the growth of a new organization, and who are open to developing their skills.

    Position Description

The Development Director position is a full-time, salary employee position that will be primarily responsible for overseeing CWC's fund development work including grants, individual donors, contracts and events.

Is an experienced foundation and individual donor fundraiser
Has experience working with environmental justice organizations or a strong passion for environmental, racial and social justice
Has a strong understanding of nonprofit finance and experience leading financial oversight and organizational budgeting
Welcomes and incorporates staff feedback, and seeks outside expertise as needed
Is aware of how differences in class, race, privilege and lived experience shape how individuals and institutions think, act and give
Is comfortable talking about and asking for money
Is an advocate for the Center and our mission in all interactions
Identifies and develops recommendations, takes action and makes decisions in a timely manner

    Major Responsibilities

Oversee timely grant application and report submissions according to funder requirements.

Develop and update a list of prospects and renewal applications and deadlines, consistently prospecting for new funders to meet the organization's needs.

Oversee grant tracking to track grant prospects, application awards and reporting deadlines. Update staff tracking and reporting tools to include any grant deliverables, metrics or outcomes, as appropriate.
Oversee grant compliance and implementation, ensuring grant deliverables and requirements are understood and completed.

Manage and update CWC's quarterly reporting template or other tracking tools and give feedback to staff on content to ensure high quality and effective reporting and evaluation.

Participate in annual evaluation of program effectiveness to inform annual organizational program planning.
Manage grant contracting and processing of any grant awards or sub-grant awards to partner organizations.

    General Duties
Foster an environment that promotes trust and cooperation amongst CWC staff, community members, ally organizations and all other stakeholders.
Actively participate in staff meetings; board and staff retreats; and program strategy meetings as appropriate
Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
