    Ronald McDonald House Charities, Upper Midwest (RMHC-UM) in partnership with our community, provides a comfortable and caring home-away-from-home that supports keeping families together and reduces stress during a child's serious illness or injury.

    RMHC-UM operates five locations in Minnesotafour in the Twin Cities and one in Duluth, and provides complimentary lodging, meals and support to thousands of families every year.

    Job Summary
    The Development Manager is responsible for executing and managing aspects of a comprehensive special event program.

    Through work with the entire Development Team, fundraising engages various audiences and builds key relationships with volunteers, prospects, supporters, donors, board and committee members at all levels.

    Efforts primarily support Ronald McDonald House Charities, Upper Midwest's operations, with emphasis on donor retention and new donor engagement.

    The Development Manager will be responsible for achieving annual revenue growth targets for assigned special events through 5-star event management, expanding the donor pool and increasing existing donor giving.

    RMHC-UM annual special events as part of the organization's overall fundraising are the Golf Classic golf tournament, Brew Love beer and food festival event/s, RBC Race for the Kids run and walk endurance event, and the RMHC-UM Gala.

    All provide mission awareness, donor cultivation and $1 million+ support.

    The Development Manager is responsible for leading core elements of the planning, logistics and execution in tandem with RMHC-UM senior leadership and collaboration with other department leads such as Volunteer, Communications, and Family Services.

    Event success occurs through the engagement and solicitation of sponsorships, volunteers, auction items and key event participants/vendors.
    Primary Responsibilities
    The Development Manager will serve as lead management support for 2-3 special events/campaigns including Gala and Brew Love.
    Successful event execution includes partnership stewardship.

    The Development Manager will work with Senior Leadership and colleagues to foster overall sponsorship strategies and donor outreach and retention planning.

    Signature events and other sponsor related events and campaigns, such are all key in spreading RMHC-UM's mission and achieving fundraising goals for meeting family service needs.

    This position will be responsible for direct and indirect supervision of other staff serving in a supportive lead roles as it relates to the signature events.


    • Strategize, develop and execute a robust and strategy-driven events calendar, serving as lead and secondary support where assigned
    • In collaboration, determine venue, negotiate contracts and event details, providing creative and relevant feedback based on specific event revenue and expense goals
    • Monitor progress of event planning activity and oversee event logistics and supporting high level needs event correspondence
    • In conjunction with Development and Senior Leadership Members, coordinate all event software logistics, invitation lists and attendance lists
    • Analyze event progress and results including revenue, expense and identifying ongoing revenue growth opportunities for each event
    • Manage each event with resourcefulness related to expenses and securing in-kind gifts to support event execution and partnership support. Prepare revenue and expense reports in detail and for Senior Leadership and committee communications
    • Support a strategy for publicizing special events through online and offline media
    • Manage event wrap up and reconciliation process in conjunction with finance and donor database staff
    • Support development of event-related materials, including sponsorship packet for securing within annual solicitation cycle, sponsor recognition, program support and other material event or auction promotional materials
    • Establish and build upon relationships with event sponsors, participants and vendors
    • Follow up after events with financial reports and qualitative measurements, including evaluation results and sponsor feedback
    • Steward relations throughout the year to encourage retention and strengthen ties
    • Provide assistance to other Development Manager for their signature events
    • Work with the Development team on the donor retention program
    • Steward relationships and manage fundraising tasks by working in various platforms, systems and databases
    • Transform potential interests into commitments to benefit RMHC-UM
    • Responsible for stewarding new and fundraising initiatives
    • Manage donor-related projects and reporting including donor retention

    Budget Responsibilities
    Revenue and Expenses expectations established in correlation to assigned events.
    Expected Hours of Work
    This is a full-time exempt position with hours primarily Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm.

    Hours of work are expected on evenings and weekends as needed per special event need or as a campaign requires.

    Preferred Education and Experience

    • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of one year of special events or fundraising experience
    • Proficiency with MS Office and its associated programs is required
    • Experience with Raiser's Edge, fundraising events software such as Greater Giving, One Cause or other mobile bidding and events management software is preferred
    • Comfort navigating Computer / Software programs and platforms
    Competencies and Skills

    • Enthusiastic professional with a track record of successful event management and growth
    • Proactive fundraiser, able to identify opportunities and suggest creative vehicles for events in their responsibility purview and also across other areas of scope, such as third party community fundraising efforts
    • Team player, able to work effectively with all employees and constituents of RMHC-UM
    • Demonstrate perseverance, creativity and initiative and will have exceptional interpersonal skills
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Able to establish long-term plans while having a keen eye for immediate details
    • High tolerance for multi-tasking
    Physical Requirements

    • Able to lift 50 pounds
    • Prolonged periods standing and walking
    • Able to carry/haul items, bend, lift, stretch and climb to support event logistical execution
    • Drive large company vehicle, with/without trailer
