    Description

    Medix is hiring a seasoned in-life manager to join a growing research team that we partner with in San Diego, CA This is a direct hire position. At this time, neither relocation assistance nor sponsorship are available.

    Description:

    With direct oversight of the Diabetic Research Team as well as the Operating Room Team, this is a critical role. In this position, you are responsible for the maintenance, regulatory compliance, inventory control and overall organization of the operating space, medical supply, and associated support areas. Responsible for inventory control and management of controlled substances. This role is responsible for the scheduling of surgeries, recoveries, necropsy room use, protocol review, SOP submission, and client relations associated with each study.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Ensuring a safe work environment for clients and personnel
    • Annual and as needed certifications/calibrations of all medical equipment in the OR and support areas
    • Coordinate OR related GLP studies and verify compliance from start to finish
    • Controlled substance management including coordinating regular training and refreshers for personnel and clients working with controlled substances
    • Assistance in writing ACUP's for clients and company
    • Host inspections in collaboration with the Vivarium Operations Manager for the FDA, DEA, USDA, IACUC, AAALAC CDPH, and any other regulatory bodies who visit the site
    • Assist in client walk throughs and answer questions related to the OR and OR equipment during introductory meetings
    • Client scheduling including maintaining the OR master schedule in conjunction with the OR Supervisor and Diabetic Team Supervisor
    • Client related study support including review of protocols, pre-study meetings, and oversight of study related correspondence
    • Responsible for the creation of New Accounts as needed
    • Medical room and Operating Room supply inventory, ordering, and billing
    • Manage veterinary care program for all large and small animals, including working with the Veterinarians on a regular basis to ensure animal welfare is not only met but exceeded
    • Anesthesia monitoring coverage for research animal technicians as needed
    • Recovery coverage for research animal technicians as needed
    • Training of research animal technicians, host PowerPoint training for husbandry and clients as needed
    • This position allows for the development of technical skills and participation in ongoing research studies when time allows
    • Some weekend and holiday work required

    Job Requirements:

    • Degree at the level of Bachelors or higher
    • 5 years of in-vivo experience in a preclinical setting is required. A minimum of 2 of those years should be focused on the Operating Room or Large Animal Surgical Suite, experience with NHP, Swine, Ovine, Canine, Bovine, Lagomorphs, Rodents, etc. is desired
    • At least 3 years of supervisory responsibilities in a research setting is required
    • Knowledge of USDA, NIH, GLP and AAALAC requirements

    Physical Demands/Work Environment:

    • Job entails animal allergen exposure. Jobs may require immunization, depending on exposure to various species.
    • This position includes standing, walking, bending, lifting, cleaning and washing.
    • Ability to lift 50 pounds and to perform repetitive movements.
