    MTA Metro-North Railroad is a dynamic organization, operating out of the jewel of New York City, Grand Central Terminal. We provide service to over 86.5 million customers, traveling in and out of New York and Connecticut. A subsidiary of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Metro-North Railroad is one of the busiest commuter railroads in the nation.     Position Objective:

    Assist in the management of Metro-North's connecting services, and aid in the coordination of special events as they relate to Operations Planning.

    Responsibilities:
    • Assist in the oversight of MNR-operated connecting services: Hudson Rail Link Bus as well as the Haverstraw-Ossining and Newburgh-Beacon ferries.
    • Assist in the coordination of Metro-North's operations with other connecting services within the service territory.
    • Assist in the compilation of ridership data, monitor service costs, equipment maintenance oversight, and oversee Federal Transit Administration reporting requirements for Metro-North-operated connecting services.
    • Help address and rectify customer complaints.
    • Perform field inspections to ensure service is operating properly and that facilities are properly maintained. Much of this fieldwork requires working during the early morning and/or late evening periods and travel to various locations.
    • Assist in the creation of connecting service schedules in MNR's Train Plan Scheduling System, and their posting at designated locations. Address deficiencies that may develop between schedule changes.
    • Compile historical data for holidays and other events throughout the year.
    • Assist in the development of operating plans for holidays and special events.
    Required Qualifications:

    Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
    • Knowledge of transit operations and ability to learn scheduling techniques.
    • Working knowledge of MNR equipment scheduling system (TT75/Train Plan) or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to speak effectively with internal departments, customers, and officials at various levels of other agencies.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills.
    • Detail-oriented with strong quantitative, analytical, and financial skills.
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize workload while adhering to deadlines.
    • Strong knowledge of Word, Excel, and/or comparable PC applications.
    • Must be flexible to work early or late shifts, travel, and work on weekends/holidays as needed.
    • Valid driver's license
    Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
    • Knowledge of railroad operations, and intermodal/connecting service transit operations.
    • Knowledge of ridership, alternatives analysis, and service planning.
    Required Education and Experience:
    • Associate's degree in Business Administration or related field or technical degree. In place of a degree, an additional two (2) years of experience in transportation operations or transportation planning in a transportation organization may also be considered.
    • Minimum of two (2) years of transportation operations, planning, procurement, policy, or equivalent work experience.

    This position is safety-sensitive and subject to toxicological testing.

    According to the New York State Public Officers Law & the MTA Code of Ethics, all employees who hold a policymaking position must file an Annual Statement of Financial Disclosure (FDS) with the NYS Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government (the "Commission").

    Employees driving company vehicles must complete defensive driver training once every three years for current MNR drivers; or within 180 days of hire or transfer for an employee entering an authorized driving position.
