In honor of my Dad

In honor of my Dad

“All things bright and beautiful, All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful: The Lord God made them all.”

“Maker of Heaven and Earth”

~ by Cecil Frances Alexander

Today my dad would have been 92. In May this year he went to heaven. Although he worked in manufacturing … he loved the “land” & considered himself a “farmer” … During the years on “the farm” my parents rescued many dogs & countless cats … they took great pleasure in the nature around them … feeding & watching the deer & birds. Dad was especially blessed by his loyal canine friends. Over the years they captured his heart in ways that people never could.

… These are two of the poems I wrote for him …

“Pals”

The old man saw the newborn pup

With gentle words he coaxed him up

The pup wiggled & whimpered some

Greeting with his little pink tongue

While mama nudged & washed his face

He nuzzled for a warm, soft place

The old man smiled because he knew

Adventures in his mind he drew

This pup & he in friendship grew

He let him run and share his days

Black fur would catch the sun-light rays

And so it was for many years

He called this dog & scratched his ears

They’d wander fields & sit by streams

And in their way … they shared their dreams

Cold winter nights … warm fires inside

The man would meet his Pals’ bright eyes

They’d eat and share the same good foods

This dog who knew his masters moods

He’d lie in sleep beside the bed

Lest strangers ever dare to tread

No words are needed to express

This bond of loyal tenderness

A wagging tail … and playful eyes

In sweet sleep … his gentle sighs

The days flew by … as years will go

The old man’s gait was getting slow

His faithful Pal in faith abide

Could not be parted from his side

One day his Pal could see no more

Quietly resting on the floor

Gentle hands could do no more

Death was waiting at the door

Both lives were held by fragile thread

Both hearts were speaking words unsaid

Eternity before each spread

I trust that in Eternity

This faithful friend … his eyes will see

By Fay Marmalich-Vietmeier

“Faithful friends”

Dad’s dear “Molly” God did send

Mirror of another friend

Driving in his truck one day

Their eyes met … and she did stay

Born of Molly … sweetest boy

“Tumble-Tumble” brought such joy

“Sir Walter Ripley” was his friend

House & home he did defend

Faithful dogs become best friends

Loving, faithful … to the end

Into lives the Lord does weave

Comfort bearers … peace receive

Canines have unspoken creeds

Soothing spirits … filling needs

Enter hearts for just a season

Stay by your side without reason

Dogs don’t judge when harsh words rant

They sooth hearts when people can’t

Sounding boards for broken dreams

That echo over windless streams

By Fay Marmalich-Vietmeier

This added note:

A dream in your heart that lingers … is not to be ignored: After my parents had 6 children … my Dad’s desire to be a history teacher was not deterred … he attended Geneva College in pursuit of that dream. Besides history my dad was very knowledgeable of nutrition & naturopathic healing. Thought leaders that influenced his thinking: Dr Mox Gerson & Albert Einstein … I hope his path crosses with these great men in heaven ;~)

If my words make you think … Great ;~)

As “iron-sharpens-iron” … I enjoy brushing antenna’s with other BEES … feedback is as “honey”

A glimpse of the “Bee” called “me” ;~)

My curious nature makes me a “queen of questions” … but gifted with the ability to listen ;~) I'm a woman of deep faith, a blessed mother, a voracious reader, a blossoming writer, a grateful person, and a lover of beauty … I treasure family, true friendships and my loyal clients ... enjoy traveling, learning, good movies, good wine and golf. I’m a heart-to-heart communicator.

Tausif Mundrawala I am always touched in my heart by your words Tausif... Your parents are very blessed to have a son of your character: possessing a loving heart & humble spirit Your life will be filled with purpose and touch many ... if only through your words As I read your words ... the thought that occurred to me is that pets understand their master often more than people From my observation ... pets are very intuitive of mood ... even sensing good or bad in people (heart intentions) such as a dog keeping watch over a home My dad was a very closed person (not easy to show emotion or affection) which is probably also related to the era when he grew up and how this was how his parents were toward him But Dad loved on his pets ... no barriers Pure, unabashed "heart-to-heart" communication When you say "spring back to life" .. it reminds me of one of the poem in the post I did yesterday: https://www.bebee.com/producer/@fay-vietmeier-pennsylvania/be-blessed-the-enduring-honey-effect-of-gratitude “When I rise up Let me rise up JOYFUL Like a bird. When I fall Let me fall without regret Like a leaf." ~ Wendell Berry from “Prayers & Sayings of the Mad Farmer”

Cyndi wilkins Yes Cyndi ... I think they would ... perhaps they even now may find a crossing of paths in heaven. In eternity I believe the Master-Weaver will continue His work ... friendships & relationships will "blossom" because time will not be such an enemy How I hope they each find their faithful canine friends ... even now ;~)

Cyndi wilkins Thank you so very much Cyndi... My Dad would loved this poem I'm going to share it with my sister "Cynthia" She is a "bird whisperer " ... has an aviary in her home ... has rescued many exotic birds (some large) Even more she is the female version of Saint Francis ;~) her understanding of animals is a gift from God When my Dad's lab went blind & also had diabetes ... she was the "saint" that helped to care for my dad and his canine friends ... one after another each dog passed away ... and a part of my Dads heart died with each one

Fay Vietmeier You wrote "sharing different IDEAS and human-opinion can stretch the way we see the world and see other people". I shall also add different and opposite ideas can stretch our minds . This is the key message of my last post: https://www.bebee.com/producer/@ali-anani/what-not-to-do

In honor of your dad Fay Vietmeier...May he rest in peace... A Faithful Dog Will Play With You...And Laugh With You, Or Cry. He’ll Gladly Starve To Stay With You...Nor Ever Reason Why. And When You’re Feeling Out Of Sorts...Somehow He’ll Understand. He’ll Watch You With His Shining Eyes...And Try To Lick Your Hand. His Blind, Implicit Faith In You...Is Matched By His Great Love. The Kind That All Of Us Should Have...In The Master, Up Above. When Everything Is Said And Done...I Guess This Isn’t Odd. For When You Spell “Dog” Backwards...You Get The Name Of God. -Leonard Kreicas

@AliAnani Thank you my dear Professor for sharing the poems And for your warm thoughts and encouragements Truly: The feedback from other “bees” … is as "honey” … at times very meaningful It does not have to be just like-minded bees Sharing different IDEAS and human-opinion can stretch the way we see the world and see other people Some “bees”… though far away … become fast friends and “sweeten” our lives I can testify that this is true…as can you ;~)

Oswaldo Enrique Diaz Delgado Oswaldo~Thank you for reading and always thoughtfully commenting Your words are poetic…a beautiful picture: “under the big tree that is in our beautiful square, there we will all be in family planting love and knowledge” Not all family trees bear “sweet” fruit … but a tree of Love & Knowledge can only be of God since he is the Source If our hearts bear the “good deposit” of God’s Holy Spirit … then we can blossom in “love and knowledge”

Fay Vietmeier A dad who left behind a daughter of your quality is still living. I am moved by the two poems and the real bonding that we make in the course of our lives.Your first poem to your late dad is touchy, speaks to my heart and make me feel "the music of passion" in your lyrics. I smiled reading this "feedback is as “honey”". BeBee says that bees produce honey. Well, you say that the true honey is feedback. I am in agreement because post real value is by getting relevant feedback that make the author and readers learn and grow. Sharing your post
