    POSITION DESCRIPTION:
    Director of Development (Full-Time)


    The Lavender Rights Project (LRP) advances a more just and equitable society by providing low-cost civil legal services and community programming centered in values of social justice for trans and queer low-income people and other marginalized communities.

    Full-time

    Director of Development to the team. This position will lead LRP's fundraising efforts, provide strategic planning support, and coordinate LRP's efforts.
    The Director of Development will manage our fundraising program and supervise our Grants and Communications Manager.

    Our hope is that the Director of Development will help grow our fundraising capacity while encouraging community, Board, and staff participation in fundraising efforts.

    The Director of Development will diversify and grow each of our fundraising sources, ensuring that LRP remains fiscally secure and healthy.

    In addition to these duties, the Director of Development will work closely with the Black Trans Task Force to stabilize and grow their funding sources as well as mentor a Black Trans person in development and fundraising.

    This position reports to the Executive Director.
    LRP's operating budget is approaching $1.5 million and growing.

    Our funding sources include federal and state grants, civil legal aid, fee for service work, program revenue, as well as foundations and grants.

    Responsibilities

    Provide monthly reports to the Board of Directors and works with the Board and/or Board committees on fundraising efforts
    Carry a portfolio of contributing income for Lavender Rights Project
    Carry a portfolio for growing and supporting the Black Trans Task Force
    Mentor a Black Trans person in fundraising and development work
    Help develop the organizational budget for LRP, track monthly development projections, and maintain the budget for development at LRP
    Prepare the Executive Director for development related meetings
    Review development plan, find strengths and weaknesses, revise and strengthen plan in collaboration with the Executive Director
    Responsible for stewardship of current donors, donor correspondence, and leading retention strategy
    Collaborate with Executive Director to create and maintain a community of sustaining donors
    Manage donor appreciation, including acknowledgement, and any relevant recognition events
    Manage donor database and develop a pool of prospective donors
    Direct fundraising events, periodically holding direct appeals at tent pole moments (especially around LGBTQ+ and Trans Pride), and develop an annual ask campaign
    Consider alternative development plans such as endowments, planned giving, sponsorships, and membership after stabilizing current development plan
    Work closely with the program team on incorporating asks into program events
    Remain informed of LRP programs and communicate current program plans to donors
    Work with Grants and Communication Manager in writing appeals, announcing campaigns via social media and emails, and composing appreciation and information letters
    Work with the Grants and Communication Manager on the annual report
    Skills and Qualifications


    Preferred Qualifications:
    Has lived, volunteer, or work experience with QTBIPOC TLGBQ2SIA communities. Master's degree in philanthropy or related field. Extensive experience in communications, development, grant management and/or public relations.

    Required Qualifications:
    Education or experience, or a combination related to this position. Relevant experience in communications, development, grant management and/or public relations. Can work occasional evenings and weekends.

    Skills:
    Current WA state driver's license, required insurance, and vehicle for local travel (preferred). Can learn or has experience with Google Suite, Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint, Word. Comfortable working with donor databases.

    Salary & Benefits:
    $70,000 (firm), 196 hours of PTO, FLEX hours, option to contribute to 401K (no match), Medical and Childcare FSA, Kaiser HMO Health employer contribution at apprx. 80%, Orca Card, Employer paid dental, optional Life/Accident/Etc with Colonial Life.
