    Overview


    Reporting to the Director of Accessibility and Disability Services, the Associate Director plays a critical role in leading the Office of Disability Services (ODS) and works with the Director to advance accessibility in University programs and services in order to ensure compliance with Federal and State laws, including the ADA/Section 504 and New Jersey Law Against Discrimination.

    The Associate Director oversees the interactive services process for students with disabilities and collaborates with the Director to address concerns for students registered with ODS.

    Applying independent judgment and expertise, the Associate Director identifies reasonable accommodations to minimize disability-related barriers. They also address individual student issues with faculty and other campus personnel, and follow up and review existing accommodations.

    The Associate Director supervises two staff members (the Access Coordinators) in managing the student services process and collaborates with them and campus constituents to ensure appropriate implementation of approved accommodations for students.

    The Associate Director participates in accessibility initiatives and regularly interacts with faculty members and colleagues in the Office of the Dean of the College, Counseling and Psychological Services, University Health Services, Housing, Dining, the Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Students, and the Graduate School.

    The Associate Director provides overall coordination of services for students registered with focusing primarily on cognitive, medical, and psychological disabilities.

    The Associate Director works in collaboration with and provides oversight to the Access Coordinators to evaluate documentation for students with disabilities.

    Responsibilities include intake appointments with current and prospective students, evaluation, record keeping, identification and delivery of services, monitoring, and accommodation notification.

    The Associate Director provides updates on student accommodations and consults with Director on complex cases.

    The Associate Director develops and maintains relationships with campus colleagues including but not limited to CPS, UHS, Residential College Deans, and the Graduate School to consider and approve student accommodations.

    The Associate Director resolves issues with accommodations and technology, including interaction with faculty to provide guidance and address concerns.

    The Associate Director collaborates with the Accommodations Coordinator to ensure seamless implementation of accommodations related to physical access, assistive technology, and temporary injuries.

    The Associate Director is the point of contact with campus colleagues relating to the implementation of approved housing accommodations.

    The Associate Director maintains records to provide statistical information on students served in ODS for reports. Responsibilities also include ongoing review and development of procedures.

    The Associate Director supervises two or more full-time staff members responsible for the student accommodations process. Management of these staff includes frequent meetings to collaborate on accommodation request reviews and determining reasonable accommodations.

    Develop and deliver trainings in collaboration with the Access Coordinators on accessibility and disabilities, for campus constituents.


    The Associate Director represents the Office of Disability Services and the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity in contexts focused on access and diversity.

    In this capacity, they serve on cross-institutional committees and working groups, search committees and special initiatives.

    Qualifications


    Essential Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in a related field required
    • Minimum of four to six years of experience providing services to students with disabilities in a postsecondary setting
    • Demonstrated experience managing and supervising staff
    • Demonstrated experience reviewing clinical documentation, conducting interactive processes for determining accommodations and providing such accommodations.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of current state and federal law and regulation related to the ADA, Section 504, the NJLAD, and the FHA; and of federal regulatory requirements for educational institutions receiving federal assistance.
    Preferred Knowledge, Skills, etc.


    • Education and/or work experience in education, social work, counseling, or psychology;
    • Work experience in and knowledge of the learning context of highly selective postsecondary institutions;
    • Familiarity navigating electronic data management systems;
    • Ability to manage multiple, on-going, and complex caseloads of disability-related student matters;
    • Superior attention to detail, problem-solving skills, organization, and electronic, verbal and written communication skills;
    • Excellent judgment, personal maturity, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to remain a neutral party;
    • Strong presentation and facilitation skills;
    • Sensitivity to issues of diversity and the ability to interact with a diverse population of students, staff and faculty;
    • Familiarity with assistive technology
