    Summary:

    The Environmental Manager is the leader of a team responsible for improving and sustaining the facility's environmental management system based on ISO The Environmental Manager uses expertise to oversee and ensure all aspects of environmental compliance of management systems and environmental regulations to company standards. The Environmental Manager will be managing a team that covers sites in California: San Diego, Los Angeles, and Emeryville. Periodical travel will be required.

    Essential Duties and Responsabilities:

    1. Lead with the development, implementation and maintenance of an Environment Management System based on ISO 14001 standard.
    2. Coordinate the fulfilment of all ISO 14001 requirements, operation, improvements, sustaining all ISO 14001 elements.
    3. Maintain, optimize, and implement a regulatory compliance program including monitoring completion of regulatory activities and implementing compliance inspections and audits.
    4. Utilize Dakota Software or equivalent to audit and monitor environmental activities and corrective actions.
    5. Optimize and monitor environmental based projects (energy and water conservation) for management reporting.
    6. Conduct and report an annual audit review and periodic third-party audit.
    7. Develop, generate, review, and present environmental reports, including the Corporate Annual Environmental Report.
    8. Provide leadership for continually improving environmental programs, pollution reductions, and projects for cost reduction opportunities.
    9. Manage and monitor Environmental department's operating budget.
    10. Assume the decision-making responsibility for day-to-day operations considering staff input and collaborating with other cross-function teams to improve departmental performance and efficiency.
    11. Provide scientific and/or technical advice and counsel as needed communicates company and departmental goals to the department's exempt and non exempt employees.
    12. Manages large complex projects to bring in on budget, on schedule and technically correct by revising, analyzing and reporting the results against business parameters.
    13. Maintain a quality presence to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
    14. Maintain current knowledge of regulatory and industry standards.
    15. Generate thorough written reports, when required, that summarize investigations performed for out-of-specification results or out-of-procedure events.
    16. Participate in regulatory and internal inspections/audits including providing written responses as applicable for area of responsibility.
    17. Provide guidance and hands-on training to direct reports
    18. Appraise and monitor performance of department personnel.
    19. Coach, counsel, address complaints and resolve employee related issues with the collaboration of Human Resources.
    20. Provide a leadership role ensuring employee health and safety.
    21. Involved in interviewing/selection process of hiring or promoting department personnel.
    22. Strict adherence to procedures and practices according to FDA regulations.
    23. Strong emphasis on documentation according to FDA regulations.
    24. Adhere to departmental corporate safety policies.
    Required Experience/Skills & Educational Qualifications:

    1. Bachelor's of Science degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Occupational Health or closely related discipline is required.
    2. Equivalency: In lieu of 7 years of experience, candidate must have a minimum of a Master's degree in a closely related scientific / technical discipline, and 3 years of related experience.
    3. Requires an in depth understanding of environmental compliance and ISO 14001 certification.
    4. Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of GMPs, FDA regulations, and industry guidelines is preferred.
    5. Demonstrated ability to inspire high performance in others and align team members around shared goals.
    6. Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate, guide, train, coach and develop department personnel.
    7. Demonstrated project management skills.
    8. Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to make structured decisions on a routine basis.
    9. Must be proactive, results oriented, and have strong attention to detail.
    10. Self-starter with strong work ethic and the ability to exercise good judgment.
    11. Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks to meet targeted deadlines.
    12. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with personnel at all levels in a team environment.
    13. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in the English language.
    14. Computer literacy with proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    15. Must be flexible with working hours / shifts in order to accommodate the 24-hour, 7 day plant operation.
    Physical Requirements:
    1. Manual dexterity to perform all job functions.
    2. Ability to lift /move up to 50 pounds.
    3. Ability to sit for extended periods - up to four (4) hours at a time.
    4. Ability to gown and work in an aseptic/clean room environment.
    5. Exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals and biological hazards.

    The estimated pay scale for the Environmental Manager role based in Los Angeles, CA, is $94,333 - $141,500/per year. Additionally, the position is eligible to participate in up to 8% of the company bonus pool. We offer a wide variety of benefits including, but not limited to: Medical, Dental, Vision, PTO, up to 5% 401(K) match and tuition reimbursement. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on education, experience, skillset, knowledge, where the role is performed, internal equity and market data.
