    Major Responsibilities:
    • Quality: Provides quality patient care within the scope defined by hospital policy.
      • 1)Ensure care is in accordance with the established methods and procedures of the system. a. Assists with providing and maintaining a safe and comfortable OR area for surgical patients and demonstrates knowledge of and maintains aseptic technique. b. Practices within infection control policy and procedures. c. Performs scrub duties and demonstrates basic knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments and supplies. d. Assists in organizing and coordinating required instruments, equipment and supplies. e. Provide assistance to patients in walking, eating and other personal needs as necessary. f. Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to operate standard and specialized OR/OB equipment. g. Assist is maintenance, care, cleaning and packaging of standard and specialty instruments and supplies. h. Assists the RN by checking the OR suite for completeness of instruments, supplies, and equipment such as baby resuscitation supplies, bovie and suction equipment. Notifies RN if anything missing from room or equipment is not in good working order. i. May assist in preparing unit, patient rooms and beds for receiving patient admission, returning patient, transfers or emergencies. j. Retrieves necessary patient care items as directed from pharmacy, central supply, warehouse, etc. k. Participates in unit performance improvement monitoring and data collection. l. Takes call when necessary to provide appropriate staffing for C/S. m. Observes and timely reports patient needs and conditions to the RN. n. Responds to patient's call light in a timely manner. o. Practices appropriate utilization of restraints. p. Ensures that patient items/valuables are safe guarded. q. Monitors that all patients (mothers and infants) have ID bands on and they fit appropriately. r. Follows all infant safety precautions and guidelines. s. Stops surgical procedure if time out is not completed or if instrument/sponge counts are not correct.
    • Customer Satisfaction: Provides all customers with appropriate services to meet their needs to assist the team in achieving success in their customer satisfaction strategies.
      • 1)Immediately resolves customer issues/concerns that fall within scope of practice and competency.
      • 2)Provides input into the practice's customer satisfaction initiatives.
      • 3)Participates in implementation of practice customer satisfaction strategies.
      • 4)Assists in maintaining and developing existing and new customer relationships, e.g., patients, signification others, and Associates.
      • 5)Maintain patient's privacy and confidentiality.
      • 6)Assures that RN and OBT caregiver names are placed on patient boards in each room where applicable.
      • 7)Performs quick registration for patients in the OB triage area and for the infant's quick registration in L&D after their birth.
    • Innovation: Contributes to the practice, department and hospital innovation efforts to maximize excellence and build respect for services.
      • 1)Submits improvement ideas for IMMC, its services, and participates in the implementation process as appropriate.
      • 2)Participates in unit innovation opportunities and strategies.
      • 3)Utilizes creative measures to optimize customer satisfaction.
    • Productivity: Participates in implementation improvements to practice team productivity.
      • 1)Provides input into strategies that enhance one's skill level and increases the productivity of the unit.
      • 2)Participates in collecting and analyzing productivity data.
      • 3)Suggests productivity improvement ideas.
      • 4)Flexible in meeting the staffing requirements of the unit.
      • 5)Demonstrates willingness and aptitude to assimilate new roles and tasks.
    • People Growth: Responsible for self development and development of practice team skills.
      • 1)Assesses own learning needs, seeks appropriate training and development. Sets own objectives and goals.
      • 2)Maintains and supports Accrediting Organization requirements in regards to competencies. (I.e., CPR certification, safety and infection control, current licensure hospital/unit based certification standards).
      • 3)Demonstrates appropriate technical skills for clinical competency.
      • 4)Participates in the Performance Pathway evaluation process.
      • 5)Orient and train new Associates to unit functions and responsibilities.
      • 6)Participates in hospital committees.
    • Organizational Climate: Participates in an environment within the practice team that supports the management philosophy, IMMC Hospital strategic plans and Advocate Healthcare strategies.

      • 4)Communicates and collaborates effectively with physicians, nurses, directors and other healthcare members to assure delivery of quality care in a high stress environment.
      • 5)Participates in implementing planned changes and activities to improve nursing services, working environment and patient care as directed by the practice team.
      • 6)Holding self and others accountable for clinical practice.
      • 7)Participates in recognition efforts of team and hospital.
    • Economics: Contributes to cost containment and business growth initiatives of the practice.
      • 1)Assists leader and manager with unit staffing requirements.
      • 2)Responsible for efficient utilization of all resources within scope of job accountabilities.
      • 3)Manages inventory needs/adjustments and communicates such to manger or practice leader.
      • 4)Participates in cost containment team strategies.
    Education/Experience Required:
    • High school Diploma Able to communicate effectively in English 2-3 years hospital experience CNA or equivalent CPR Certified
    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
    • Good customer orientation Customer focus Skills Good interpersonal communication skills
    • CNA or equivalent CPR certified Meet OBT requirement within 6 mos of hire. CPR Certified
    Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions:
    • Hours may vary as well as unit due to patient census. * Responds to emergencies as directed. * Ability to demonstrate a commitment to patient-focused care. * Ability to work at in a fast paced environment with established time constraints and in difficult situations. * May be exposed to hazardous materials/substances and life threatening diseases. * Ability to perform heavy lifting (Up to 100 pounds occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pound frequently and/or in excess of 20 pounds constantly. * Ability to transport objects and patients from one location to another. * This position needs to recognize needs and behaviors of specific age groups of patients treated. * May take "call" as needed. * May perform other duties as assigned by the Charge Nurse.
    • If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
