- Works with design engineering to develop cost effective, robust, manufacturable solutions to design problems
- Develops fixtures, nests and poka-yoke tooling with associated PLC logic to control and capture production activity, and ensure safe and error proofed assembly of production end items.
- Coordinates vendors and outside contractors in the development of tools and assembly processes.
- Conducts Machine and Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis and develops detection and prevention methods and control plans to reduce risk and liability in end item assembly processes.
- Develops process flow maps and identifies potential bottle necks and costly operations and makes recommendations relative to quality, tooling and manufacturing processes.
- Conducts in-depth studies relative to justification of equipment purchases/modifications, work simplification, system standardization of parts, components assemblies and materials.
- Prepares and implements changes in existing plant layout and capital investments.
- Conducts time and motion studies. Assists in determining capacity and production standards.
- Estimates and validates production capacity via pilot builds and run-at-rate studies to establish labor content of end items.
- Develops work instructions for proper fabrication and assembly of medium to high volume products
- Develops process change plans, validates change effectiveness and implements changes in processes, time standards, and bills of material.
- Minimum Bachelors of Science or related degree in Engineering
- Preference given for experience in marine or vehicle controls markets
- Knowledge of solid modeling software (Creo Parametric preferred).
- Knowledge of 2-D modeling software (AutoCAD preferred).
- Functional understanding of ANSI Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Functional understanding of measurement equipment (calipers, micrometers, comparators, etc)
- Working knowledge of manufacturing processes including turning, milling, molding, die casting, stamping, and extruding.
- Working knowledge of rapid prototyping processes including machining, 3D printing, and laser cutting
- Functional understanding of electro mechanical sensors and measurement devices (potentiometers, DC circuits, ohm meters, oscilloscopes, etc.).
- Ability to construct, interpret and apply Design FMEA's and Process FMEA's
- Project management experience with demonstrated ability to meet required timeline commitments.
- Advanced use of typical office software (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Project)
- Intermediate use of MS Access
