Our client's R&D has committed to increase the use of automation in support of analytical science for small drug molecules.

The ten-year vision of automation is where implementation will:


  • Free the hands of their scientists, releasing energy to make on betterinformed decisions
  • Drive the reduction of attrition, by maximizing our knowledge and capabilities, deliver more robust workflows and increase quality


As part of this strategy, a multi-million-dollar core-testing facility has been built to support the development, evaluation, and optimization of drug products.

This team will actively drive change in how automation is applied to daily decision making.


The High Throughput Automation team member role will ensure that current and future automation is appropriately used to deliver value to client projects.

Accordingly, this person will implement innovative automated platforms and workflows with the following purpose:


A day in the Life:


  • Successfully utilize the automation assets for rapid screening and/or development in order to reduce design selection risks and enhance product design across all phases of development.
  • Develop appropriate automation protocols to meet the needs of the analysts, chemists, engineers and formulation scientists.
  • Organize, evaluate, and present data in an effective and scientific manner.
  • Contribute to the development of new automation approaches and knowledge within the global automation organization.
  • Ensure the local capability to rapidly leverage existing laboratory automation in order to dramatically reduce the time to address design selection issues with drug development.
  • Write protocols for new automation workflows using roboticspecific software for laboratory instruments such as Agilent HPLC, Unchained Labs, Mettler Toledo, Chemspeed, Andrew Alliance, and Hamilton.

Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or Organic Chemistry or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification
  • AND 2+ years of previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job
  • In some cases an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role._

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Solid understanding and knowledge of general chemistry and separation science
  • Demonstrated product development experience across multiple projects in pharmaceutical development environment, with evidence of achieving product deliverables within disciplinary expertise.
  • Broad knowledge of analytical method development in support of new chemical entity (NCE) development
  • Proficient in and demonstrates highly effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Team player and ability to work in a matrix environment.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and diagnosing problems in analytical platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to interface with multiple internal and external groups to successfully deliver projects.
  • High learning agility has the ability and willingness to deal effectively with firsttime situations or changing conditions.
  • Knowledge and experience with statistical design of experiments and analysis of results.
  • Knowledge of solidstate analytical methods e.g. microscopy, Raman, XRD, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate, test, and troubleshoot HPLC instrumentation.
  • Full understanding of laboratory requirements, PPD & client SOPs, ICH guidelines, USP requirements and FDA guidance.
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Excel and Word to perform tasks
  • Proficiency on technical operating systems
  • Proven problem solving and troubleshooting abilities
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
