    Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Behavioral Neuroscience, Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences

    The in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Delaware invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Behavioral Neuroscience position to begin in the fall of 2024. We seek an outstanding scholar using animal models to investigate any specialization of Behavioral Neuroscience. We especially welcome applications from candidates who incorporate computational neuroscience approaches with other empirical methodologies in Behavioral Neuroscience who can build upon or diversify the existing strengths of our faculty. Our department values candidates who can demonstrate a commitment to excellence in instruction at the graduate and undergraduate level, to high quality student and trainee mentorship, and who can teach and mentor a diverse student population.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will have a proven track record of exemplary research and earned a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree in neuroscience or a related field. We are seeking innovative scientists, who are expected to build a vigorous, well-funded research program focusing on topics that complement and extend the existing strengths of our faculty. In particular, candidates who incorporate computational approaches into a strong experimental research program using animal models are desired. Candidates should be able to collaborate with a strong and growing interdepartmental network of neuroscientists in the Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Graduate Program, which provides opportunities to train interdisciplinary scholars and build connections with researchers across departments and colleges. Candidates will also have the opportunity to develop courses and teach a diverse population of undergraduate and graduate students.

    PSYCHOLOGICAL AND BRAIN SCIENCES AT UD: The Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Delaware ) is within the College Arts and Sciences. The Behavioral Neuroscience Area in the department has faculty focusing on learning and memory, behavioral epigenetics, developmental neuroimmunology and neuroendocrinology, regulation of social behavior, stress-related hormonal and arousal systems in depression and PTSD, neural plasticity, and social behavior and communication. They employ multiple methodologies including small animal neuroimaging at our MRI center, in vivo neurophysiology, optogenetic manipulation of brain circuits, neuroanatomical tracing, behavioral tasks, molecular and cellular neurobiology, and image analysis. Enhanced by state-of-the-art facilities, research is conducted across all seven colleges and numerous interdisciplinary institutes and centers. Relevant staffed facilities on campus include a 11,600 square foot Center for Biomedical and Brain Imaging housing a 9.4T/20cm Bruker MRI for small animals, an animal housing and research facility, a 103,000 square foot Health Sciences Complex, a 194,000 square foot Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Laboratory, and a Bio-Imaging Center, a multi-user microscopy facility that houses state-of-the-art equipment. The NIH-supported Delaware Center for Neuroscience Research in collaboration with Delaware State University, and the Delaware Health Sciences Alliance (DHSA), a partnership among the University of Delaware, Christiana Care Health System, Nemours/Alfred I. du Pont Hospital for Children, and Thomas Jefferson University, provide infrastructure and opportunity for innovative collaborations for basic, clinical, and translational researchers.
