Development Manager - Oakland, United States - Planted Solar

    Planted Solar
    Planted Solar Oakland, United States

    Default job background
    Description

We are looking for world-class talent to tackle challenging projects that will help power the planet with 100% clean energy.

First, the good news: Humans have installed a little over 1 TW of cumulative solar capacity over the last 20 years - solar is now the cheapest source of energy generation around the globe.

Now, the challenge: Humans have to build 3 TW of solar capacity every year for the next 30+ years. Planted is creating new technology to overhaul how we design, develop, and build solar power resources to make this happen.

And, we need help. We're expanding our team of curious, collaborative, and hands-on engineers and operators. Come own large parts of product, company, or business development and help make our big plans a reality
    About The Role

As the Development Manager, you will work closely with our customers to convert a pipeline of prospective projects into permitted sites ready to generate carbon-free energy. You will own critical pieces of our project development process and apply your knowledge of solar plant development from site origination, interconnection, zoning, preliminary site design, and RFPs to support our customers. Successful candidates will possess solar market expertise, strong leadership and communication skills, energy and infrastructure financial acumen, and a desire to be a part of a growing, early-stage company. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with a talented and cross-functional engineering and business team with a high degree of empowerment and autonomy.

We prefer candidates located in the Bay Area, but we will consider candidates elsewhere (regular travel to Oakland and elsewhere will be required.)

The salary range for this full-time position is $80,000 - $120,000 plus stock options and benefits. Pay within the range is based on candidate experience, job-specific skills, education, and work location. The target experience for the position is 2 - 6 years.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Manage project development engagements to deliver sites to permitting or NTP and nurture partnerships with existing customers
    • Own site analysis and financial modeling necessary to evaluate risks and opportunities at potential solar power plant projects
    • Support internal and external resources to help negotiate LOIs and master framework contracts
    • Support the creation and improvement of development and project management tools, processes, and standard operating procedures
    QUALIFICATIONS
    • 1+ years experience in distributed generation or utility-scale solar power development
    • Strong communication, organization, and relationship management skills
    • Financial modeling expertise using Microsoft Excel or other modeling programs
    • Hands-on ownership mentality, curiosity, and resourcefulness
    • Ability to navigate ambiguity, reduce reasonable risks, and make good decisions with imperfect knowledge
    • Nice to have: Experience with solar industry software (e.g., PVsyst, Anderson Optimization)
*A note on qualifications: Many people are unlikely to apply for jobs unless they believe they can perform every task in the job description. We are most interested in finding the best candidate for the job and will consider equivalent combinations of knowledge, skills, education, and experience to meet minimum qualifications. If you are interested in applying, we encourage you to think broadly about your background and skill set for the role.

    PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS
    • Mostly desk work using standard office equipment
    • The position requires some travel for customer and business meetings and company-wide events
    What We Offer
    • Flexible hours and paid time off (PTO) that we think you should actually use
    • 11 paid company holidays
    • Company paid in-office lunches
    • Stock option compensation
    • Medical, vision, dental and other benefits
    • Pre-tax commuter benefits
    • 401(k)
    • A chance to have an empowered, meaningful, and early role in climate
This will be a great fit if:
    • You have a bias for action and focus on the key work that drives the most impact.
    • You want to solve challenging problems.
    • You prioritize the physical and psychological safety of yourself, your team, and partners.
    • You are humble, embrace change, and deliver and receive candid feedback.
    • You are optimistic about the future, and can make tough decisions to help get there.
    • You have high expectations, and coach, develop, and make time to help others.
You'll enjoy working at Planted because:
    • We prioritize safety. We create technology and culture that allows everyone to go home healthy.
    • We embody an owner mentality. We set goals, own the results, and proactively improve all aspects of our company - even in ways that are not explicitly part of our job and we take full responsibility for achieving the mission.
    • We are biased toward action and complete quality work quickly and make tough decisions without agonizing.
    • We are humble, embrace change, and value learning over being right. We see failure as a pathway to innovation and share setbacks and mistakes openly so everyone can learn and improve. We seek and celebrate the diversity of thought, experience, and culture to avoid echo chambers.
    • We strive to elevate everyone. We set high expectations for performance and celebrate wins, big and small. We coach, develop, and make time to help each other.
Planted Solar is an equal opportunity employer committed to growing inclusively, regardless of race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, medical condition, age, or veteran status. However you identify or whatever background you bring with you, please apply. We look forward to hearing from you.
