    Description
    The EHS Manager provides strategic direction and tactical action by developing, aligning, and implementing EHS strategies, processes, and procedures consistent with other business strategies to assist in the development of a world-class safety organization, built on a behavior-based approach to safety and a culture of engaged employees who recognize safety as their first priority. This includes managing and coordinating activities for compliance with federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulators. Through a hands-on, collaborative, and influential approach, this position will support and drive the achievement of positive results for all U.S. locations, while interfacing with international locations as applicable.

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    Demonstrates company values and shares the organizational commitment to safety, quality, productivity, and a high-performance workforce through positive employee relations.
    • Builds collaborative relationships cross-functionally, leads by example, and ensures personal compliance with all EHS-related policies, procedures, and rules.
    • Objectively evaluates conditions and orders the suspension of activities that pose an imminent threat to employee health or safety.
    • Identifies, eliminates, or mitigates EHS risks and ensures that all EHS activities effectively and sustainably drive EHS performance that meets or exceeds company and regulatory compliance, while supporting business goals.
    • Ensures human resources and other applicable management is immediately notified of any near miss, incident, or injury.
    • Develops, implements, and manages EHS policies and programs to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other global, federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
    • Documents all EHS activities in compliance with company policy and regulatory agencies and provides routine reporting on metrics related to EHS.
    • Analyzes data to identify issues and trends, and collaboratively develops and implements solutions, providing for continuous improvement of EHS related programs that improve safety, compliance, and reduce costs.
    • In close collaboration with human resources and other key stakeholders, designs, implements, and manages return-to-work programs, employee engagement initiatives, and other strategies related to a world-class safety culture.
    • Develops, implements, and manages an annual budget, including proposing capital spending for projects related to EHS, and assists with planning and prioritization of such projects to minimize business disruptions.
    • Manages hazardous waste handling and disposal in compliance with EPA and other applicable regulations.
    • Manages timely and accurate preparation of environmental permit applications and reports for regulatory agencies, maintaining a positive relationship with regulatory agencies and the community.
    • Manages and collaborates with external consultants and internal stakeholders to achieve regulatory requirements and/or to respond to related customer requests, which includes obtaining and maintaining Safety Data Sheets.
    • Collaborates with supply chain to ensure suppliers are compliant with applicable EHS regulatory requirements to meet business objectives.
    • Works collaboratively with all employees to identify EHS issues and priorities and develops and implements solutions that support business goals while ensuring safety and compliance as top priorities.
    • Effectively interacts with engineering, operations, and maintenance employees to develop and implement engineering solutions for facility and equipment to eliminate hazards while minimizing negative impact on performance.
    • Develops and implements training programs that ensure compliance and understanding of policies and procedures by employees at all levels.
    • Leads the incident and accident investigation process to ensure identification of root cause and implementation of immediate and long-term corrective action to prevent recurrence.
    • Develops and implements or manages hygiene programs, such as noise surveys, air monitoring, ventilation surveys, or asbestos management plans as appropriate.
    • Investigates the adequacy of ventilation, exhaust equipment, lighting, ergonomic conditions, etc. that could affect employee health, comfort, or performance and develops and implements corrective actions.
    • Leads and conducts safety audits/assessments, tours, and observations on a routine basis to engage employees in the ongoing identification and elimination of EHS related risks and hazards.
    • Manages facility security systems, including coordination with other stakeholders to select, maintain, and continuously improve security of facilities. This includes, but is not limited to, issuing, and maintaining a badge and camera security system for employees, contractors, and other visitors.
    • Participates in continuous learning to ensure current and appropriate level of knowledge to effectively perform this role.
    • Provides coaching, guidance, and leadership to all direct and in-direct reports.
    • Maintains and evaluates OSHA logs, incident trending data, corrective actions, and audit results to identify strategies for short and long-term improvements in safety performance.
    • Develops and maintains systems for evaluating and selecting safe and effective contractors for work at the facilities, collaborating with supply chain for contract negotiations.
    • Provides direction, training, and support for the company Safety Committee and Emergency Response Teams.
    • Travels to other facilities (approximately 10-15%) to support EHS operations and participate in training, meetings, professional organizations, etc.
    General Responsibilities
    • Performs other responsibilities as assigned and/or as needed to support company objectives.
    • Meets on-site and other attendance requirements, including any off-schedule hours as required to meet the needs of the business.
    Requirements

    WORK EXPERIENCE
    • A minimum 5 years EHS management experience in a heavy industrial/manufacturing facility, preferably in a machining environment.
    • A minimum of 5 years of demonstrated change leadership and continuous improvement experience.
    QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
    • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Environmental Sciences, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field is strongly desired OR significant continuing education and/or coursework toward a degree plus at least 10 years of directly related experience.
    • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulations.
    • Demonstrated effective influencing, collaboration, and communication skills with all levels.
    • Ability to identify and work collaboratively with outside resources and experts to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead, implement, and facilitate change initiatives.
    • Highly functional in MS Office and other software generally used by this type of position.
    • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Must be able to perform the following physical demands with or without accommodation:
    • Ability to sit and utilize a computer for up to 8 hours per day.
    • Ability to stand, walk, and move around an office and industrial environment for up to 8 hours a day.
    • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds on an infrequent basis.
    • Ability to bend, kneel, and climb on an occasional basis in an office and industrial setting to evaluate facility and equipment.
    • Ability to hear and speak effectively to communicate with other employees, agencies, and vendors.
    • Ability to perform activities related to travel (for example: driving, flying on airplanes, moving throughout airports) on an as-needed basis (approximately 10-15%).
