The Schlegel Center for Service and Justice (SCSJ) at Creighton University "awakens hearts and lives of solidarity to build a more just world."

This position will manage SCSJ's Local Community Engagement offerings. This includes recruitment and formation of volunteers, logistical support, evaluation and reporting, student leader supervision, and university policy compliance. This position also ensures that we meet community engagement best practices.

Local Community Engagement programs include:

• Weekly Service Program (Drop-in program, 3-4 community partners per week)
• 402 Service Program (Committed semester long program, 12-15 groups per week)
• Community. Reflection. Education. Weekly. (C.R.E.W.) for Social Justice (committed semester program 2-4 groups per week focused on migration, criminal justice or environmental justice)
• Community Orientations of North Omaha, South Omaha, Refugees in Omaha, Environmental Justice
• Federal Work Study in the Community (2-3 students tutoring in local elementary school)
• Campus student formation opportunities which involve local community engagement

Local Community Engagement Programs (Weekly Service, 402 Service Program, C.R.E.W. for Social Justice)

• Supervise 12-15 student leaders in planning site specific orientation, reflection, and logistics as well as supporting their holistic wellbeing.
• Update the website and work with SCSJ staff to promote sign ups
• Ensure safety to include Children and Vulnerable Adult policy and vehicle safety compliance
• Liaison with community partners
• Support compilation and submission of relevant assessment and evaluation reports

Community Orientations Program

• As a part of mission integration we offer this formation for faculty, staff, and students, engaging with North Omaha, South Omaha, refugee communities and Environmental Justice.
• Serve as primary contact and facilitator for all four community orientations offerings
• Offer and expand Community Orientations in academic classes, supporting the goals of the Sustainable Creighton Initiative

Federal Work-Study in the Community

• Recruit and supervise students serving as classroom aides in local elementary schools
• Ensure Creighton fills this FWS position that is required for the University to maintain access to FWS funds for student financial aid

Support of campus wide local community engagement opportunities and collaborations

• Creighton Engage (Givepulse) database information entry and event registration creation
• New Student Orientation / Welcome Week "CU for and with Others" event support
• Cortina Community - Sophomore Living Learning Community - weekly service, formation and Board Membership

Ignatian Student Leadership Formation

• In collaboration with SCSJ professional staff recruit, train, form, and supervise 35-40 student leaders. Ignatian Student Leadership Formation includes Ignatian reflection, discernment, leadership and facilitation skills and commitment to building a more just world.

SCSJ Team Support and Personal Professional Development

• Actively participate in SCSJ staff meetings, SCSJ Team Leader meetings, planning sessions and retreats (includes overnight retreats for students).
• Participate in university events and support Mission and Ministry events.
• Support and attend Division and Department development days and retreats.
• Follow professional associations, attend meetings and conferences annually.
• Keep abreast of current local and national research and best practices related to Community Engagement, Ignatian Formation, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, through reading, dialogue, attendance at conferences, etc.

Qualifications:

Education
* Bachelor's degree required. Related fields may include Ministry, Social Work, Social Justice, Sociology, Public Policy or Community Development

Work Experience
* 3-5 years of related work
* Experience supervising students and/or teams
* Working collaboratively across a variety of cultures and in a multi-faith environment
* Logistics and detail-oriented work
* Collaboration with community partners/non-profits
* Experience with training and formation of students for community engagement
* Ignatian formation preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication
* Knowledge about and desire to continue to learn about social justice issues (including migration, housing and food insecurity, education, and climate change)
* Commitment to social justice and environmental sustainability
* Knowledge of or openness to learning Catholic Social Teaching and Ignatian Spirituality
* Knowledge of and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
* Knowledge of and commitment to asset-based, mutually beneficial community engagement
* High attention to detail, facility with technology, MSOffice, database usage etc.
* Ability to communicate with local partners, including Spanish or other languages preferred.
