    Summary You will serve as a senior Engineer or Scientist in the COMBAT SYSTEMS FUTURE CAPABILITIES BRANCH of the COMBAT SYSTEMS ACQUISITION DIVISION in the USW COMBAT SYSTEMS DEPARTMENT for NAVUNSEAWARCENDIV NEWPORT RI.

    Duties * You will serve as a senior Electronics/Mechanical/Computer and Systems engineer, performing engineering tasks involving the research, design,operation, maintenance and development of new USW Combat Systems technologies and capabilities.

    * You will be responsible for working with and leading a project team in the development of USW Combat Systems, conducting testing, providing various test support to the system, and related subsystems and components.

    * You will be responsible for planning and carrying out assignments, coordinating with others as necessary, and interpreting policy for established objectives.

    * You will generate system and subsystem requirements in concert with fleet, sponsor, and expert stakeholder engagement. * You will review and analyze system requirement specifications and technical design review packages. * You will provide recommendations for future system enhancements based on analytic findings.     Qualifications This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled by a Mechanical Engineer (0830-series), a Computer Engineer (0854-series), an Electronics Engineer (0855-series), Mathematics series) or a Computer Scientist (1550-series) depending upon the qualifications of the candidate.

    In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND-3 pay band (GS-9 and GS-11 equivalency) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

    For the ND-08XX,

    Professional Engineering Series:
    Successful completion of a professional engineering degree.

    To be acceptable, the program must:
    (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

    Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.

    Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above).

    Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.

    Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.

    For the ND-1520,

    Professional Mathematics Series:

    A degree in mathematics or the equivalent of a major that included at least 24 semester hours in mathematics.

    OR
    A combination of education and experience demonstrated by courses equivalent to a major in mathematics (including at least 24 semester hours in mathematics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. For the ND-1550,

    Professional Computer Science Series:
    A bachelor's degree in computer science.
    OR
    A bachelor's or higher degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science.

    At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must be in a combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.

    Additional information This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. The ND-04 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-12 and GS-13.
