The Vice President, Business Development is responsible for seeking and identifying new business opportunities within the Greater Houston region, establishing contacts with leads in new business and marketing situations, and assisting in public relations with current and potential clients. This person assumes full accountability for generating business from new clients and growing the base of business with existing clients so that the business unit's revenue goals can be met and exceeded for a billion-dollar commercial construction company.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Work closely with the Managing Director of Operations to identify, generate, and develop new business opportunities across multiple sectors of the Houston market.
· Meet and develop relationships with brokers, architects, engineers, corporate clients, etc.
· Establish rapport, maintain communication, and elicit information from prospects to allow proper development of strategies for a successful marketing approach.
· Protect the existing revenue base by servicing and maintaining client relationships.
· Assist in researching and preparing formal presentations to prospective/current clients.
· Participate in proposals, pitches, and closings.
· Provide input to firm-wide strategic business development efforts.
· Maintain current, up-to-date knowledge of market conditions, anticipated trends, and real estate activity.
· Actively promote company through industry and trade affiliations, public relation events, and community participation.
· Monitor effectiveness of marketing efforts, and secure feedback from prospects regardless of outcome.
· Maintain/update database.
QUALIFICATIONS
A bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, business, or construction management as well as a minimum of 10 years' experience in business development and client management are required. This role requires a background in commercial construction/architecture/engineering with strong business connections in the local Houston marketplace.
A demonstrated track record of identifying and closing deals, business expansion, contact/client development, networking and marketing strategies is necessary. Knowledge and understanding of the construction process including project management, estimating, budgeting, value engineering, and profitability factors, is essential. This role demands diversified experience including not only Tennant Interior-focus but also having sold work in other markets, e.g., Mission Critical, Life Sciences, Oil & Gas, Energy, Ground Up Big box warehousing, etc.). A construction operations background is preferred, but not necessarily required.
ORGANIZATIONAL FACTORS
The Vice President, Business Development will report to the Regional Vice President.

· Be budget conscious. BD budget is limited and will require adherence.
