Salary Range: $50,000 - $65,000 annually
Summary of Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the New Directions Dept. Director, the Program Coordinator assists in overall management of the staff and day to day program operations of ABCs New Directions Substance Abuse Services Clinics in conjunction with New Directions management team. This position assists in providing services; promotes chemical dependency and mental health awareness/intervention and treatment; and plays a key administrative/supportive role assisting in the planning and implementation of service activities necessary to achieve current and future program goals and objectives.
The Program Coordinator position serves a s a back-up to the New Directions Director and works in a team setting; coordinating and delivering evidence-based substance abuse prevention and intervention services and direct services to individuals, groups, and families impacted by substance abuse, mental health, and related issues. Primary direct service duties for this position include program recruitment of individuals and families; intake and consumer assessments and reviews; evaluation and treatment plan reviews; intake and discharge reviews; staff scheduling and coordination; facilitating individual & group therapy sessions; direct counseling; clinical and medical record reviews; activity coordination & staff scheduling. Administrative duties also include program development; planning & management; fund, grant & resource development; fiscal management; human resource and performance management & training; advocacy; community & customer relations; developing collaborative partnerships; facilities and site management; program monitoring, reporting and evaluation; and implementation of quality assurance strategies to ensure compliance with governing regulations and best practices in service delivery.
The Program Coordinator also oversees data collection, interpretation, storage, data base maintenance and security and all reporting activities for assigned units and staff. The Program Coordinator plays a major role in developing and implementing strategies to address issues and barriers impacting high risk populations, family members and the community, and maintaining quality service practices in response to these factors.
Qualifications/Education and Experience:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to perform this job successfully or to perform each essential duty satisfactorily; this list should include level of education, years of experience, certifications or licenses required, specific skills needed, and level of competency required for PC applications and those required or preferred for other software or programs, etc. There are also general requirements for every position pertaining to level of physical ability required to perform the essential functions of the position.
+ Education: Bachelors degree in Social Work or Psychology, Counseling, Rehabilitation Therapy, or closely related field is required. Requires current certification as a Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC); and certification as a Qualified Health Professional as defined by OASAS; the equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
+ Experience: Requires a minimum of two (2) years of professional work experience in a substance abuse treatment facility or comparable setting, including successful experience in the fields of rehabilitation, chemical dependency, and alcoholism treatment. Requires two (2) years of supervisory & management experience.
+ Ability to work independently with limited supervision, as well in a team environment is essential. Intern/volunteer recruitment and management experience is a plus.
+ Requires working knowledge in the fields of counseling theory, treatment planning, medical aspects of chemical dependency, or pharmacology. Advanced level knowledge of substance abuse issues is required including: the 12 core competencies, life ARES as identified by OASAS 822 rules and related regulations.
+ Experience and familiarity with successful evidence-based techniques/strategies for service provision and application in treatment settings is required; knowledge of NYS Dept. of Health, HIPPA and NYS confidentiality laws, policies and procedures and prevention/intervention curriculum is strongly preferred.
+ Requires experience and knowledge of chemical dependency and mental health issues/treatment strategies; knowledge of consumer/community needs, care engagement, treatment adherence barriers, related statistical data & trends in care; knowledge of priority populations and increasing awareness among those at high-risk of substance abuse and their family/caregivers/friends.
+ Must show demonstrated experience working with ex-offenders, victims of domestic violence and individuals with disorders. Requires good understanding and sensitivity of related issues faced by individuals/families in recovery.
+ Must possess excellent organizational and planning skills; must be attentive to details and have good administrative, analytical, negotiations, evaluative, planning, and problem-solving skills; must be able to handle multiple tasks with tact and diplomacy; ability to manage multiple priorities with fixed deadlines; and ability to implement appropriate changes.
+ Must have the ability to identify mental health disorders, and individuals suffering for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI); requires ability to work with co-occurring disorders and dual diagnosis consumers; must be able to counsel consumers at both the medical, as well as psychological levels; and maintain a modified caseload of consumers.
+ Must have strong interpersonal and customer service skills and an aptitude toward directing and motivating people; must possess enthusiasm, sensitivity and must maintain a high level of confidentiality for all items of a sensitive nature; experience working work with diverse individuals/groups from diverse backgrounds, in a variety of settings required. Must have experience engaging individuals at all organizational levels, both internal and external.
+ Requires the ability to conduct patient evaluations and develop treatment plans; must possess a working knowledge and demonstrated experience in motivational interviewing and screening; requires an in-depth knowledge of the stages of change, and how to apply this knowledge in a treatment setting.
+ Demonstrated linkage/navigation coordination experience is required; experience conducting/interpreting individual screening assessments & patient evaluations; required to develop consumer treatment/ plans, assist with goal setting, and provide information & referral services. Familiarity with NYSDOH documentation/reporting requirements and records maintenance systems helpful.
+ Requires strong communication skills, oral & written; experience in public speaking, preparing, and disseminating educational and informational announcements, procedures, and related communications; experience coordinating and facilitating informational sessions/trainings, presentations, meetings/ related special events is required. Proven ability to convene public meetings, forums, and public awareness activities; must have ability to develop and facilitate sessions for diverse groups/individuals from different sectors.
+ Requires proficiency with all Microsoft Office Applications: Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Outlook; prefer proficiency in or have demonstrated ability to achieve proficiency in 10e11eCR, OASAS, and ARES computer programs experience managing data base systems and data entry; experience in maintaining electronic & paper records/file systems; experience preparing reports, forms, spreadsheets and related communications required.

+ Bi-lingual skills are a plus: ability to speak, read, and write in English/Spanish language is preferred.
+ Requires the physical health and physical capability to work in an office setting as well as in the field.
+ Requires a valid NYS Drivers License, and access to reliable transportation daily.
Background and Department. of Correction and Community Supervision Security Clearance are required. All employees of ABCs New Directions Program must receive and maintain a full clearance from the Justice Center of New York that allows them unsupervised contact with clients (at the Agencys expense).
