    Job DescriptionSalary: $20-$21 per hour DOE

    SUMMARY: Under supervision of the Career Exploration Coordinator, Youth Support Specialists will perform a variety of duties interacting with youth, parents, schools, and community agencies to promote youth career exploration through outreach, assessment, education, and intervention services. Foster relationships between the young people, medical care community organizations, social services and workforce providers, and public agencies to provide opportunities for Hampden County Youth.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Provide direct job readiness education, outreach, intervention services, and case management to youth ages 14-25.
    • Greeting and screening clients seeking services
    • Knowledgeable in computers and their programs i.e.: Windows, Excel, Internet usage, etc.
    • Program record keeping with daily service log and reports.
    • Assist youth in accessing community services such as substance misuse services, counseling, tutoring, mentoring, vocational training, and other services that may be to their benefit.
    • Conduct social service assessments, link youth to need services, provide case management, and support positive change.
    • Gather information and analyze data for the purpose of evaluating and adjusting programs, when necessary, in accordance with funding program requirements
    • Participate in collaborative meetings and committees to benefit at-risk youth.
    • Participate in training (Trauma, Youth Development, Motivational Interviewing, etc.)
    • Travel to multiple sites to provide services to youth, community partners, businesses, and participate in meetings.
    • Drive frequently for program business.
    • Must be flexible with availability (schedule will vary)
    • Supervise and support Peer Counselors (Young adults tasked with mentoring younger youth)
    • Implement other projects, activities, or job duties as assigned.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has some supervisory responsibilities.

    QUALIFICATIONS: HS diploma GED/AA or BA/some college is preferred. Experience providing service in community programs, facilitating groups, public speaking, and prevention. Coursework or training in community health work, violence prevention, youth development, substance abuse, or case management. Valid driver's license and evidence of insurance.

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's Degree and Certified Alcohol/Addiction Counselor preferred. 1+ years' work experience with adolescents. Understand and apply principles, methods, procedures, and strategies utilized in the development of a comprehensive program designed to reduce and/or prevent problems associated with youth violence such as drug, alcohol, tobacco use, gang involvement, teen pregnancy, HIV/STI's, mental illness and unintentional injury prevention. Work collaboratively on law enforcement, health
    care and social service teams.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS: Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) and Bi-Cultural preferred. Great communication and teamwork skills. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, parents and employees of organization.

    REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions

    furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

    MENTAL/VISUAL DEMANDS: Flow of work and character of duties involve normal mental and visual attention much or all of the time. Specific vision abilities required by this position includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Eye-hand coordination required less than 15% of the time.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms; stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, and/or kneel.

    The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
