    Position: Library Graduate Assistant

    Status: Part-time, (20hrs/week)

    Department: Joan Weill Adirondack Library

    Reports to: Director of Library Services

    Start Date: Fall Semester 2024

    Compensation: Stipend, Room, and Tuition

    Description:

    The Library Graduate Assistant works collaboratively across the library's staff and faculty to assist in library operations. The position is focused on liaison work between graduate student cohorts, Director of Graduate Studies, and the Library. This position will help to enrich the Graduate programs by acting as primary contact for the library with students and faculty in the graduate program. With assistance from Library Faculty, they will work to tailor the library's services and resources to the needs of Graduate Student researchers. This position will help provide reference and library services to Graduate students while staffing the library on some evening and weekend shifts to assist Graduate Students outside regular workday hours.

    Duties & Responsibilities:
    • Provide excellent patron service and assist with patron transactions at library front desk.
    • Assist students and other library patrons with basic information retrieval and computer needs.
    • Manages library building and supervision of undergraduate student workers on regular evening or weekend shifts when other library staff are unavailable.
    • Coordinate Graduate Faculty needs for library and course resources at start of each semester.
    • Provides basic library reference service remotely to graduate students and in-person to undergraduate students on evening and weekend shifts.
    • Makes recommendations to Faculty Librarians in Collection Development for areas of study related to Graduate Programs, especially where their coursework intersects Library Collections.
    • Communicate Library services, resources, and access to Graduate cohorts, work with Director of Graduate Studies to discuss Library services with prospective Graduate Students.
    • Coordinate deposit of Graduate program final projects into Library Capstone Database.
    • Assist Library staff in ongoing projects as needed.
    • Assist with other duties as needed or assigned by the Director of Library Services.
    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree from a four-year institution and enrollment in Paul Smith's College Master's degree programs.
    • Ability to work with a broad range of diverse individuals and groups to form a safe and inclusive campus community.
    • Excellent organizational and office management skills, including the ability to multi-task.
    • Background in customer service, communications, or related area.
    • Strong interpersonal communication skills to effectively work within a small team both in person and electronically using email, internal messaging, institutional software, and phone systems.
    • Ability to interpret and communicate information to patrons effectively.
    • Strong working knowledge of computers and technology, ability to use office software and learn new applications as needed.
    • Library work experience preferred.
    • Supervisory experience preferred.
    • One Evening and one weekend shift as scheduled in coordination with Library Director.
