    About us:

    The Simon Wiesenthal Center (SWC) is a global Jewish human rights organization that confronts anti-Semitism, hate, stands with Israel, defends the safety of Jews worldwide, and teaches the lessons of the Holocaust for future generations. It is an accredited Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) at the United Nations, UNESCO and the OSCE, the Organization of American States, the Latin American Parliament, and the Council of Europe. The SWC is headquartered in Los Angeles with offices in New York, Chicago, Miami, Toronto, Paris, Jerusalem and Buenos Aires. The Museum of Tolerance Los Angeles, founded in 1993, is the educational arm of the SWC. Moriah Films is the Center's two-time Academy Award-winning film division and the Museum of Tolerance Jerusalem is scheduled to open in 2024.

    About the role:

    The Museum of Tolerance is seeking an experienced Associate Director of Education to oversee daily operations of our multi-faceted museum tours and programs, and to strategically advance the Museum's mission and goals through the department's work.

    About you:

    You are passionate about creating enriching and educational experiences for diverse groups of students and other visitors.

    This position will report to the Museum Deputy Director and is based in Los Angeles.

    Responsibilities

    Oversee all aspects of personnel management, financial management, educational program development and implementation, capacity building, and strategic initiatives.

    • Department Oversight and Leadership
    • Direct oversight of all youth education programs of the Museum of Tolerance
    • Supervise 4 direct reports – 3 FT 1 PT , 1 FT overseeing direct unpaid reports of ~100 volunteer & intern team
    • Leads regular Education Department meetings and trainings
    • Participate in internal and external Advisory Boards (currently: new exhibition on antisemitism)
    • Represent the Museum at conferences and in academic communities, speak on panels and submit reports and findings to connect research to practice to build visibility of the Museum within the field
    • Propose new pathways for audience engagement through longitudinal plans that meet mission and leadership
    • Collate reports and communicate narratives for Senior Staff and Development
    • Educational Content
    • In conjunction with MOT senior staff and faculty, develops content for school tours, education programs and trainings
    • Promotes and monitors educational content that reflects the diversity of the Museum's collection and community
    • Outreach
    • Maintain strong relationships and develop new opportunities to cultivate, collaborate, and partner with community organizations to advance the Museum's mission and interests
    • Liaises with community organizations, non-profits, schools, colleges and universities
    • Works with staff to expand scope of outreach possibilities and accessibility
    • Make public presentations introducing and promoting the Museum's Education programs
    • Other job related duties and responsibilities may be assigned

    Experience and Skills:

    • Minimum five years' experience in museum education and curriculum design
    • Minimum two years' of direct experience managing department and supervising staff
    • Outstanding communication, team building and leadership skills
    • Highly motivated, shows initiative, and the ability to problem solve
    • Ability to prioritize and multi-task; think creatively and strategically
    • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate effectively in public
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
    • Excellent IT and research skills
    • Advanced degree in Museum Education, Art History or related field preferred but not required
    • Personality profile to fit into a safe, inclusive, open and collaborative culture that requires teamwork and significant interaction with employees at all levels.
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, agile environment where you will get your hands into the details.
