WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR


The Security Department plays a vital role by serving as the Museum's frontline stewards, interacting with every phase and facet of our business to ensure the safety, security, and enjoyment of the Museum, its staff, visitors, and artifacts.


WHAT YOU'LL DO

EVALUATION & STRATEGY RESPONSIBILITES

  • Be responsible for the overall safety and security of the Museum's premises, artifacts, employees, and visitors.
  • Ensure the museum is secured, continue to stay informed and up to date on the latest security protocols, and adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures as administered by the Director, Security & Operations.
  • Remain aware of and assist with the operational needs of private events, programs, and exhibit installations, as well as special needs visitors and DEIA training.
  • Provide best in class customer service, ensuring our visitors, staff and special guests are informed and engaged.

DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Welcome visitors, walk the Museum floors (offering assistance and reporting technical issues), monitor crowd flow and general wellbeing of Museum staff, guests, property and artifacts.
  • Work Museum events, programs, and workshops to ensure the enjoyment and safety of our visitors and staff.
  • Follow all opening and closing procedures as outlined in our Standard Operating Procedures, including assisting our Guest Services staff as needed.
  • Ensure that CCTV equipment and access control systems are functioning properly and being used and monitored to ensure the consistent and ongoing safety and security of Museum property and artifacts.
  • Participate in all security training, including but not limited to drills, sessions, courses, updates, and certifications. Training areas may include general security and safety, fire, earthquake, evacuation, first aid, and other emergencies.
  • Respond to emergency and nonemergency situations, including tampering of artifacts, injuries and first aid incidents, security breaches, damaged property, and other real and potential threats.
  • Provide security escorts for vendors, contractors, employees, visitors, special guests (e.g., VIPs, press), and artifact installation and removal through public and/or restricted areas as directed by security management.
  • Work additional shifts as needed to cover call offs and late arrivals.
  • Maintain working knowledge of security, safety, and emergency preparedness best practices.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Three (3) years' Security experience preferred.
  • Ability to respond quickly and appropriately to unexpected situations and emergencies.
  • General knowledge of first aid, CPR, and AED.
  • Strong written skills, including staff memos and announcements, basic business correspondence, training materials, policies and procedures, incident reports and documentation, performance evaluations, and disciplinary memos.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including a demonstrated ability to maintain impartial, positive, courteous, and professional in interactions with students, museum staff, artists and professionals from other museums, donors, high profile VIPs, vendors, visitors, and the public.
  • Ability to establish trust with both company leaders and team members to achieve team and company goals.
  • Ability to physically stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work 32 to 36 hours per week and a flexible schedule, including overtime and varying shifts as required.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
The starting hourly rate for this position is $20.00 per hour, benchmarked against industry standards. Salaries for positions required to be in specific geographic locations reflect the corresponding labor market.
