    What You'll Do:


    The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce, Office of Information Technology is seeking a software developer to help us grow and support critical data processing and integration systems.

    The successful candidate will possess strong analytical, mathematical and communication skills, and have prior experience designing, developing and maintaining scalable data pipelines utilizing StreamSets.


    By joining our team, you will become an integral part of some of the most important data systems in the Ohio K-12 education system, notably working with the InnovateOhio Platform (IOP).

    The InnovateOhio Platform (IOP) provides integrated and scalable capabilities that enable state agencies to become more customer-centric and data-driven, delivering on InnovateOhio's vision to better serve Ohioans.

    Through collaboration and innovation, the InnovateOhio Platform creates an integrated customer experience that brings higher-quality services to the public – ultimately making Ohio a better place to live, work, and do business.


    The primary role of the position today is to independently collaborate with business personnel and data scientists to understand requirements, design, develop and maintain scalable data pipelines and deliver solutions using StreamSets.

    However, the Department is always looking towards the future, and we are engaged in leveraging cloud approaches to solve problems where appropriate.

    A "change mindset" and an interest to learn new technology is important in modern IT


    Major Responsibilities & Duties:
    Develops ELT (Extract, Load, Transform) and performs analysis and design:

    Serves as technical lead in the creation and/or modification of existing data pipelines for the agency.
    Monitor and optimize data pipelines for performance and efficiency.
    Coordinates records and/or reports development lifecycle activities.

    Leads in developing and documenting appropriate standards, naming conventions and criteria for acceptable, programming, documentation, and systems development lifecycle activities.

    Works with business personnel to assure requirement(s) are thoroughly defined and approved.
    Defines problems and develops potential solutions.

    Writes test cases and/or scripts for unit and systems testing with minimal to no supervision:

    Creates or sets-up test data for performing test scenarios.
    Verifies and documents unit and system test results to ensure data pipelines are producing desired results.
    Debugs and revises data integration pipelines when unit and system tests do not produce desired results.
    Coordinates support of user acceptance testing.
    Performs code reviews and contributes to team knowledge sharing.

    Analysis and documentation:
    Gathers and analyzes facts.
    Identifies and documents problems and develops software solutions to business problems.

    Learns to develop and document appropriate standards and criteria for acceptable programming / testing, documentation, and systems development lifecycle activities.


    Communicates with peers and others:
    Performs software development tasks per verbal and written instructions.
    Asks questions, listens to and processes answers to exchange technical information in support of software development.
    Obtains information on focused technical tasks involving database, infrastructure, and application information.
    Leads focused discussions with technical topics in support of data pipeline development.
    Conveys information compiled from a variety of sources to technical and non-technical personnel and/or management.

    Creates and/or modifies necessary program and/or application source code documentation (e.g., use cases, in-line code comments) in accordance with agency standards.

    Performs other duties as assigned.
    Learns and acquires new skills via training, seminars, self-directed study, and research of published materials.
