- Responds promptly to donor referral notifications by phone within 20 minutes.
- Attends all potential organ donors on-site within 90 minutes, barring exceptional circumstances.
- Gathers clinical information to assess donor eligibility in coordination with the Administrator on call.
- Delves into donation options with potential donor next-of-kin or family according to hospital guidelines.
- Collaborates closely with hospital and NDN staff to identify the optimal timing to offer families donation opportunities.
- Aids donor families in coming to terms with the loss as stated by the primary care physician.
- Offers initial aftercare support and leverages community resources to aid grieving families.
- Provides responder coverage for hospitals and backup support as required.
- Capable of being on call with flexibility for extended hours, potentially during the day and night.
- Collaborates with hospitals to enhance responsiveness to organ and tissue donation cases by fostering effective relationships with key personnel.
- Participates in Donor Remembrance Ceremony coordination.
- Works together with the Aftercare Coordinator in the aftercare process.
- Engages actively in hospital and public education programs as instructed.
- Aids in chart review and data collection, as well as survey/accreditation maintenance.
- Contributes to the training and development of the Family Services department.
- Participates in community education and support through various service events.
- Meets or surpasses performance metrics for NDN's Family Services department.
- Collaborates and coordinates with other NDN departments.

Description:
The Family Services Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting the mission of Nevada Donor Network, Inc. (NDN) by assessing and evaluating potential donors. This position involves working closely with families to present donation opportunities, obtaining necessary authorizations following NDN standards, conducting thorough medical and social history assessments, and offering bereavement support to families and hospital staff throughout the donation process.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Competency Statement(s) - Position Specific
Education: Bachelor's Degree preferred; relevant work experience may substitute academic requirements.
Experience: Preferred three to five years of health care-related experience. Experience in Hospice care, bereavement counseling, or similar fields is beneficial. Preferably, two years of OPO-related experience.
Computer Skills: Proficient in MS Office programs.
Certificates & Licenses: RN, LPN; Certification from AATB, EBAA, or ABTC preferred.
Other Requirements: Ability to work empathetically and professionally with families in challenging situations, a strong interest in transplantation and organ procurement, and a genuine desire to be a frontline team member of an organization dedicated to increasing organ donation. Must be willing to travel by personal vehicle to fulfill job responsibilities.
