    Primary Purpose Responsible for providing health care for patients as an allied health practitioner with specialization in all areas of Nuclear Medicine. Will work under the supervision of a licensed physician and serve as an adjunct between the physician and other health care professionals to enhance patient care in the diagnostic imaging and radiotherapy environments. Serves a a resource and role model for clinical practice, training, evaluation and direct management of technologist and students in all areas encompassed within the nuclear medicine department to ensure optimal patient care quality. Assist leadership in assessing, planning, organizing, and implementing designated advanced practice provider activities.

    Minimum Specifications Education

    Nuclear Medicine Advanced Associate:

    Masters Imaging Science in Nuclear Medicine Degree from an accredited college or university and successful completion of an accredited NMAA program.

    Experience

    Minimum of 2 years preceptors during the NMAA internship with 7 years of previous experience as a CNMT or ARRT (N) in all aspects of Nuclear Medicine.

    ECG interpretation.

    Contrast agent usage in X-ray, CT, MRI and US/Echo.

    Familiar in NRC regulations and accreditation agencies' rules.

    Equivalent Education and/or Experience

    Current employees hired at Parkland before 3/1/2014, may have an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Certification/Registration/Licensure

    Must have current healthcare provider CPR and ACLS course completion card from one of the following:American Heart Association,American Red Cross, orMilitary Training Network.

    Must meet and maintain licensing and registration requirements as delineated by the Medical Staff Bylaws, Medical Staff Rules and Regulations, and Credentialing Policies/Procedures.

    Nuclear Medicine Advanced Associate: Current, valid Nuclear Medicine Advanced Associate (NMAA) licensure from the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).

    Current certification CNMT (NMTCB) or RT(N)

    Current certification Texas Medical Board as a Medical Radiologic Technologist- General Certificate

    Required Tests for Placement:None

    Skills or Special Abilities

    Provides care to assigned patient population in accordance with the current Texas Medical Board Rules, as applicable to licensure, established protocols, multidisciplinary plan of care, and clinical area-specific standards.

    Must be able to demonstrate full competency in advanced Nuclear Medicine, Nuclear Cardiology and PET/CT procedures.

    Must be willing to teach, assess others processes and work in order to improve patient outcomes.

    Must possess a working knowledge of computer applications.

    Must be able to demonstrate good time management, interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.

    Must be able to clearly communicate changes in protocol and process to the nuclear medicine team as needed.

    Must be able to assess and or determine process flow requirements that will lead to improved advanced Nuclear Medicine, Nuclear Cardiology and PET/CT outcomes.

    Must demonstrate patient-centered behaviors.

    Must demonstrate knowledge of Parkland policies, structure, procedures, and mission.

    Responsibilities

    1. Perform and document a comprehensive review of clinical information appropriate to training accurately, clearly, and concisely.

    2. Ensure informed consent has been obtained.

    3. Provide adjunctive and interventional medications that enhance diagnostic imaging and therapeutic procedures.

    4. Monitor, supervise and document patient assessment, response and vitals while receiving adjunctive medications.

    5. Educate/Counsel the patient and family concerning procedure to be performed. Ensure self-management, follow-up and compliance to the prescribed treatment.

    6. Communicate effectively and demonstrate caring, respectful, and ethical behaviors when interacting with the patient, the family, physicians and other health care professionals.

    7. Make informed decisions about diagnostic and therapeutic procedures under the direction of the supervising physician.

    8. Gather and evaluate essential information, including correlative studies and arrange follow-up visits as necessary.

    9. Report findings to the supervising physicians.

    10. Provide indicated intervention per patient emergency event following departmental policies and practice standards. Notify the supervising physician immediately.

    11. Monitor and supervise cardiac exercise or pharmacologic stress testing with or without associated diagnostic imaging procedures.

    12. Assess imaging procedure for quality and obtain images as appropriate, and recommend additional views as necessary.

    13. Performs all procedures utilizing ionizing radiation safely and effectively, applying federal, state, and institutional regulations, including but not limited to: Participating in programs designed to instruct other personnel about radiation hazards and principles of radiation safety.

    14. The NMAA should actively participate in practice-based improvement activities as well as facility quality assurance and radiation safety programs.

    15. Participates in departmental Performance Improvement Programs, understands CIRCLES and its relationship to the work environment, attends department and modality meetings satisfactorily.

    16. Performs other duties as assigned

    17. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the practice field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, and actively participating in professional organizations. Participates in PHHS education activities.
