    Regular Full-time – SHIFT WORK REQUIRED

    Out of state candidates and instate candidates outside of the northern Colorado region may be eligible for an initial remote interview.

    Incentives Include:
    • Duty Firearm will be provided. Additionally, interest-free loans are available for future weapons purchases.
    • All uniform, belts, holsters, and other equipment, including ballistic body armor and plates, with the exception of footwear, is provided.
    • Ballistic armor is replaced every five years at no cost to the employee.
    • Officers also receive a biannual equipment allowance of $200 ($400 yearly)
    • Start Vacation accrual rate – equal to years of service. i.e., 6th year rate of 8 hours per pay period– i.e., 208 vacation/holiday hours per year
    • Schedule flexibility during training process.
    • Start at the same pay step – equal to years of service. i.e., five years of law enforcement would start at Step 5
    • Any officer who has completed probation is eligible to test for open Specialized Assignments, Collateral Duties, or Department Instructor Positions. i.e., Detectives, School Resource Officers, Traffic, Gang Unit, Training and Personnel, Driving Instructor, Range Officer, Defensive Tactics, K9 Officer, SWAT, Negotiations, Drone Operator, K9 decoy, etc.
    • Prior experience or certifications will be considered with authorization from the Public Safety Chief.
    • Spanish/English bilingual skills are desirable. Supplemental pay of $50-$200/month is available for bilingual skills demonstrated through testing.

    DEFINITION:
    Protect life and property and manage conflict through the enforcement of applicable laws and City ordinances; control traffic flow, perform investigative work, and participate in and provide support and assistance to special crime prevention, community problem-solving, and enforcement programs; work with the community to resolve conflicts, problems, and mutual concerns; perform a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of the Department. Requires completion of a Colorado State Sanctioned Training Academy training program or completion of Colorado State POST equivalency exam, and the Department's Field Training and Evaluation Program. Establish partnerships and collaborate to effectively resolve or reduce problems, issues, conflicts, and mutual concerns relating to public safety; respond to and investigate other general service calls involving criminal complaints, civil matters, and citizen assists.

    The SRO may be assigned to a middle school, high school, alternative school, or as a roving SRO, but may be responsible for additional Patrol Duties, including shift work, or other duties as assigned. The SRO Sergeant and Assistant Chief of Detectives will determine specific school assignments and/or additional duties.

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
    • Promote and facilitate school environments that are safe from crime and disorder through the investigation and enforcement of statutes, ordinances, traffic laws, and school policies, thereby enhancing student achievement and the development of positive social skills.
    • Design, research, implement, and/or instruct prevention and law-related educationbased programs that are student-focused and include topics such as substance abuse resistance, gang resistance, positive decision-making, crime prevention, personal safety, and topics related to local and state law.
    • Mentor, counsel, advise, and support students, parents, teachers, and school administrators as necessary and appropriate. Make appropriate student referrals to outside service agencies as needed.
    • Provide training/presentations to administrators, staff, teachers, counselors, interventionists, parent groups, and community groups on a wide variety of "safe school" related topics.
    • Assist school staff with the development of school-based and safety-related policies, procedures, and programs. Provide assistance, advice, and guidance in the development of threat assessments and safety plans.
    • Perform school resource officer duties and responsibilities at after-hours athletic events and other school-related functions.
    • Perform other related duties as required and assigned, including assisting other SROs and the Investigations Division with special projects and investigations.
    • In addition to the duties of an SRO, you will be expected to perform the functions of a standard patrol officer, which include, but are not limited to:
    • Work with citizens, community groups, schools, and other entities to resolve community public safety issues; identify areas of potential problems, crime, disorder, traffic, or unsafe conditions; report and initiate corrective actions. Issue verbal and written warnings and citations; make restorative justice referrals; initiate arrests, forcibly if necessary, using handcuffs and other restraints, use lethal and less lethal weapons and force when appropriate.
    • May be assigned to patrol designated areas near or around their assigned schools or other schools in the city alone in a radio-equipped vehicle, on bicycle, and/or on foot to preserve law and order. Enforce traffic and other laws and ordinances and educate citizens regarding laws and ordinances. Discover and prevent the commission of crimes; manage and resolve conflict.
    • May be assigned to respond to calls and complaints involving automobile accidents, robberies, assaults, domestic disturbances, suicide prevention, child abuse, fires, and other petty offenses, misdemeanors, and felonies; respond to alarms; investigate complaints; apprehend suspects; search, inspect, and transport prisoners. Secure accident and crime scenes; administer first aid and other life-saving techniques; conduct investigations; obtain and interview witnesses; gather information, dictate, write, or type reports and document investigations; conduct visual and audio surveillance over areas and/or suspected criminals; recover, impound, and return stolen property items.
    • Operate an emergency vehicle day and/or night, in routine, emergency, and pursuit situations; pursue fleeing suspects on foot in unfamiliar terrain. Provide public service and respond to inquiries in routine, potential problem and crisis situations. Conduct a variety of criminal investigations or activities involving crimes against persons, property, and society. Respond to general service calls, including animal complaints, civil complaints, property control, and related incidents; perform related duties as assigned.
    • Prepare investigative and other reports that may include photographs, sketches, and warrants in accordance with established format, protocol, and timeliness. Serve warrants and subpoenas; appear in court to present evidence and testify. May be required to participate in a variety of legal proceedings. Performs essential duties and additional tasks in a manner that enhances City Attributes.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
    High school diploma or GED and a minimum of 60 semester hours of college-level credit are required. A minimum of two years of experience assigned as a full-time commissioned school resource officer. 60 semester hours college-level credit requirement may be waived for: - Signed agreement to complete 60 semester hours college-level credit within five years of hire date.

    Additional requirements:
    • Must be at least 21 years of age by the date of hire.
    • Possession of a valid Colorado Driver's License, or ability to obtain a Colorado Driver's License.
    • Meet the minimum qualifications of the Colorado POST Board as defined by CRS , , and
    • Must have Colorado POST Basic Certification or Colorado POST Provisional Certification.
    • Must have satisfactorily completed a field training program and have at least one (1) year of experience as a full-time law enforcement officer equivalent to a peace officer as defined by CRS and Experience in detention, corrections, parole and/or probation does not qualify.
    • Ability to teach, relate to, and interact well with students.
    • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with people from various socioeconomic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.
    • Ability to develop and maintain a trusting working relationship with school administration and staff.
    • Ability to diplomatically balance and integrate the needs and requirements of the Longmont Department of Public Safety, the St. Vrain Valley School District, and of the individual assigned school.
    • Ability to lead formal and informal group meetings.
    • Self-motivated, high initiative with minimal need for direct supervision Police experience includes Experience as a Patrol, School Resource Officers, Detective, Gang Unit Officer, Narcotic Investigator, Training Officer, Etc. Experience should include prior experience responding to calls for service, community policing, conducting traffic enforcement, including impaired driving enforcement, drafting search warrants and arrest affidavits, making physical, custodial arrests upon probable cause, and conducting proactive law enforcement activity.
    • Maintain certifications in CPR, Intoxilyzer, and a variety of less-lethal weaponry and tactics.

    LATERAL SELECTION PROCESS – OPEN PROCESS

    • Three Oral Board Interviews, one with Internal Public Safety Staff (Command, Supervisor, Officer, Civilian Staff), one with current SRO staff, and one with Saint Vrain Valley School District staff. (Principals, EDs, maybe even students) - Integrity Interview.

    • Applicant must successfully complete an Integrity interview, Physical Ability Course, Psychological Evaluation, Medical and Drug Screen, and Background Investigation.
