    TITLE: Seasonal Assistant Camp Director

    LOCATION: The Crane Estate, Ipswich, MA

    PAYRATE 2024: $19/hour

    Minimum Age: 21 years

    Start Date: May 1, 2024

    SummerQuest Camp is an outdoor adventure camp whose goal is to get children outside, encourage them to develop essential skills while inspiring in each child a personal connection to nature.     SummerQuest at The Crane Estate is for campers aged 5-14 and runs June 24-August 23, Mondays-Fridays, 9AM-3PM.

    A Day in the Life:
    • The Camp Assistant Director (AD) is a seasonal role with a full-time schedule of 35-40 hours per week, 8:00AM-4:00PM
    • Two Assistant Camp directors serve SummerQuest Camp with each ACD working together with the leadership staff to divide roles and responsibilities across two camp locations on The Crane Estate
    • Supervise, support, and drive the weekly activity schedules implemented by Camp Educators.
    • Act as the primary supervisor of the Periwinkle (entering Kindergarten) and Plover (entering first grade) camp groups.
    • Collaboratively create and plan a thoughtful schedule of educational and fun activities reflective of the weekly theme.
    • Supervise the Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program, spearheading all hiring and communications with CITs and CIT parents.
    • Assist the Camp Director with administrative functions of camp (parent communications, paperwork, etc.).
    • Supervise campers as needed to provide breaks for Camp Educators during the day.
    • Act as a liaison between Camp Educators and Camp Director
    • Participate actively in program development and camp planning and evaluation meetings.
    • Act as a Health Care Supervisor, along with the Camp Director, by coordinating and overseeing first aid and camper medications as necessary.
    • Manage photo and video content intended for parent communication and internal marketing.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    • The ACD reports to the SummerQuest Camp Director

    What We Need From You:

    Qualifications:
    • The ideal candidate is pursuing a degree or career in education, science, humanities, conservation/stewardship, or outdoor/environmental fields. (Bachelor's degree in education or science preferred)
    • 1-3 years' experience working as a camp counselor, classroom teacher, informal educator, and/or childcare provider with children ages 5-14, environmental education (EE) experience preferred
    • A particular interest in outdoor education, especially in a coastal environment
    • Experience supervising a team of individuals and providing constructive feedback
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a group
    • Ability to take initiative and accomplish necessary tasks promptly with great independence
    • A positive attitude, willingness to be flexible, and a commitment to achieving goals
    • High regard for teamwork and collegiality
    • A commitment to the physical and emotional well-being of campers
    • The physical and mental wherewithal to teach outdoors, sometimes under challenging weather and other conditions
    Additional Requirements:
    • Minimum age is 21 years old
    • Full availability for staff training weeks and all weeks of camp (June 10-August 23)
    • Availability part-time for pre-camp preparations beginning in April
    • Ability to lift 40 pounds
    • MUST hold a valid driver's license, as well as a satisfactory driving record as outlined in The Trustees driving policy.
    • CPR and Basic First Aid certifications and/or willingness to obtain these and other certifications
    • Lifeguard certification or willingness to obtain one highly desired but not required
    • A satisfactory criminal background check (CORI and SORI)
