MESH Specialist
Mental Emotional Social Health Specialist
Seasonal:
June 2- August 16
Purpose:
- To provide ongoing psychosocial support to campers and staff in the camp environment
- To help address camper and/or counselor psychosocial issues and crises as they arise
- To identify appropriate followup resources to families, campers and staff
Qualifications:
- NJ licensed social worker, professional counselor, psychiatrist or psychologist preferred
- Basic knowledge of type 1 diabetes and its management
- Demonstrated experience with chronic illness and its psychosocial components
- Demonstrated experience working with people ages 72
- Ability and willingness to work as a part of a multidisciplinary team
- Knowledge of HIPAA confidentiality rules.
- Ability to live onsite during camp sessions.
Key Responsibilities:
1.
Individual Support:
Provide individual support and counseling to campers and staff who may need assistance with mental or emotional challenges.
2.
Collaboration:
- Work with camp staff, including counselors and medical personnel, to integrate mental health and wellbeing components into daily camp activities.
- Communicate with senior program and Health Center staff as appropriate to promote camper and counselor wellbeing.
- Collaborate with the Behavior Specialist to create plans for camper success.
3.
Crisis Intervention:
- Be prepared to respond to and manage crises related to mental health, providing immediate support and coordinating with appropriate resources.
- Maintain complete confidentiality as per HIPAA guidelines except when someone is threatening harm to self or others or other legally mandated reporting is required such as suspected child abuse/neglect.
4.
Training:
Provide training during staff week on basic MESH care for campers and staff including effective crisis and de-escalation techniques, working with campers with autism spectrum disorder, eating disorders, anxiety, ADHD, etc.
5.
Documentation:
- Keep diligent documentation practices when working with individual campers or staff using a secure server accessible to only the Health Center and Medical
- Directors.
- Communicate concerns with camper parents when appropriate.
