Description
The Director of Health Services is a Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner who evaluates, develops, and implements procedures, protocols, and best practices to protect, manage, and promote the safety and health of students.
Reporting to the Assistant Head of School, the Director of Health Services actively communicates with parents, students, and employees to contribute to a healthy school environment, provides direct support to students with identified health needs, and serves as a liaison to the Center for Wellbeing and Success in order to integrate education and wellbeing support throughout the school.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide and facilitate first aid and emergency treatments, which fall within the scope of the Nursing Practice Act, as required for students, employees, and visitors
Practice under established clinical protocols and best practice guidelines under the supervision of the school physician
Responsible for evaluating, implementing, and monitoring the School's Health & Safety protocols, which includes providing guidance to families, managing notifications, and the associated reporting as per the School's policies, or as required by local, state, or federal regulations
Oversee the entry and management of accurate student health records, including immunization records, medication administration records, individual student treatment records, individualized student health care plans, and emergency care plans
Recruit, supervise, and evaluate health services staff, establish department health protocols and guidelines, and continually evaluate related processes
Manage department budget, purchase medical supplies and medicine, and maintain, inventory for two on-campus health centers
Maintain a routine schedule for AED maintenance and training standards for use
Oversee the facilitation and completion of state required screening programs such as Vision and Hearing screenings, Spinal screening, Acanthosis screening, and any others mandated by the State
Reinforce and manage the protocols for administering student medication
Educate faculty and staff on allergy protocols, administration methods of Epi-pens, CPR and Growth and Development, and other special needs as indicated
Communicate with parents regarding individual student medical circumstances and serve as a liaison between school personnel and the family to ensure proper referral and follow-up for students' health needs in accordance with the established student care plan
Participate in planning and implementation of initiatives and programming that promote the health and wellbeing of students and employees on campus
Provide guidance and support on field trip planning and educate faculty or staff who have responsibility for assisting students with health needs while participating in school sponsored activities off-campus
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Master's preferred
Valid license to practice professional nursing (R.N.) in the State of Texas and up to date with all requirements to practice and immunization guidelines
Minimum of 10 years of nursing experience in school nursing, emergency/ICU nursing, pediatric nursing, or community health
Current certification in CPR, vision/hearing screening, and Acanthosis Nigricans
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to assess situations and act quickly
Demonstrated proficiency in electronic health records
Demonstrated ability to implement and evaluate effective and high-functioning health services to a pediatric community
