- Implement, maintain, and review payroll processing systems
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions
- Assist with the creation and revision of payroll procedures, and enforce adherence to those procedures
- Resolve payroll errors and establish appropriate audits to avoid recurring errors
- Oversee tax compliance by state and ensure periodic filing requirements are met
- Process and deliver accurate and timely year-end reporting (e.g., W-2, W-2c, 1095-C)
- Conduct personnel activities such as hiring, training, performance appraisals, scheduling, and disciplinary matters
- Delegate responsibilities to staff and monitor progress
- Set goals and objectives for team members
- Guide staff in developing action plans to achieve operational results
- Cultivate a strong team by building trust among the team members
- Attend educational events such as conferences, courses, seminars, workshops, and meetings to increase professional knowledge
- 5+ years of payroll experience
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred
- Ability to prioritize tasks by effectively managing competing and changing priorities to meet deadlines
- Accurate, detail-oriented, and organized with task management
- Ability to analyze and resolve complex problems
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to interact effectively with members, staff, vendors, and government regulators
