- Answers telephones in accordance with established policies and procedures
- Utilizes professional tone and demeanor in all communication
- Coordinates communication between sending and receiving facilities, and within the receiving facility
- Accurately records details of all communication related to each transfer request in the electronic health record in an efficient and timely manner
- Works in a collaborative manner with other members of the health care team
- Demonstrates the ability to handle a high degree of pressure, heavy workloads, multiple requests, and numerous interruptions in a positive manner, establishing priorities for effective work completion. Able to diffuse challenging situations and respond appropriately
- Demonstrates expertise in working with multiple computer applications as well as all functions of the telephone system
- Escalates barriers and concerns using applicable policies and procedures as well as chain of command
- Follows patient identification policies and procedures to ensure accurate patient identification
- Utilizes downtime procedures for effective communication and documentation when necessary
- Collaborates with Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to arrange appropriate and timely transportation based on established protocols
- Obtains insurance information and communicates with insurance providers and/or case management and social services as needed
- Initiates registration activities and completes registration as requested
- Prepares handoff and other reports as directed
- Maintains a clean and sanitary work environment
- Other duties as assigned
- Patient age specification: Neonate, infant, toddler, pre-school, school age, adolescent, adult, geriatrics. 18. Must be able to sit and work at a computer with multiple monitors while speaking on a telephone for extended periods of time
