    **PURPOSE OF ANNOUNCEMENT**

    The Office of Information Technology (OIT)s Linux support team provides information technology hosting support to hundreds of applications which in turn support the executive branch services provided by the State of Maine. The team focuses on all aspects of Linux administration on hosted systems, ranging from smaller-unit based systems to enterprise-wide systems. Our work enables state agencies to provide services for approximately 250,000 Maine residents.

    The exciting opportunity to be a part of a team making a difference in the lives of others and deliver IT service to include:

    Perform Linux system administration duties in a large, multi-tenant environment with 24/7 uptime requirements.

    Be a team member in a team of up to 8 Linux technicians in day-to-day operation, strategic planning and disaster recovery.

    Provision hardware, install Linux distributions, harden hosts, troubleshoot and ensure a stable hosting environment for some of the most complex systems supporting the State of Maine.

    Generate, install, revise, patch, enhance, customize, diagnose, correct, and maintain hosts running Linux operating systems in a multi-tenant environment.

    Potentially supervise and coordinate junior technical personnel, administrative and vendor support personnel.

    Function as a technical advisor to management and other technology personnel.

    Demonstrate a high level of training and experience in Linux, problem analysis, host performance management, capacity planning, hardware and software configuration and planning, automation, implementation of security best practices and integration.

    Ensure HA & failover of the hosting environment including regular HA & failover testing to meet system requirements.

    Administer Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Oracle Linux to support secure and reliable State of Maine software and process requirements. Provide technical support for these systems in support of OIT customers.

    Provide technical support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Oracle Linux systems to provide support to OIT customers.

    Develop technical documentation to educate team members and enable consistent delivery of technical solutions.

    Automate simple technical processes in Linux environments to ensure efficient, consistent and secure processes across the organization.

    Communicate with customers to better understand their needs and address issues that they are having with Linux resources.

    Identify less-than-optimal configurations and processes to improve efficiency and consistency within the Linux environment.

    Communicate effectively with management to keep management informed of technical challenges, issues and concerns.

    Develop Linux solutions that meet customer requirements to deliver a secure and reliable product that meets or exceeds customer expectations.

    Collaborate to plan, develop, coordinate and manage complex projects to achieve State of Maine information system objectives.

    Plan and communicate patching for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Oracle Linux operating systems to ensure reliable and secure system operation.

    **MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:** *(Entry level knowledges, skills, and/or abilities may be acquired through, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO the following coursework/training and/or experience)*:

    A minimum of 5 years of a combination of related post-secondary education, technical certifications, or technology related work experience.

    **REQUIREMENTS:**

    Knowledge of and familiarity with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Oracle Linux.

    Ability to troubleshoot issues on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Oracle Linux systems and 3rd party software.

    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers.

    Ability to communicate effectively.

    Ability to automate simple common repetitive tasks in Linux environments.

    Ability to discern technical issues from non-technical user reports such as help-desk tickets.

    Knowledge of backup and recovery software and techniques.

    Knowledge of operating system security software and techniques.

    Ability to train personnel in all phases of system support, utilization and applications.

    Ability to effectively manage projects.

    Ability to research and make recommendations to management on technical issues.

    ***Preference will be given to individuals who have experience in the following areas:***

    Experience with Enterprise Red Hat Linux 7, 6 and 5

    Experience with Oracle Linux 7 and 6

    Experience with Linux security best practices

    Experience with proven patching methodologies

    Experience with proven performance and monitor configuration

    Experience with Oracle Exadata systems.

    Experience with Oracle VM running on Exalogic

    Experience with Red Hat Satellite.

    Experience with Configuration management tools, e.g. Chef, Puppet, Ansible.
