- Serve as lead worker over the federally mandated LAUS program.
- Update and maintain a program to measure unemployment claims.
- Create and report monthly and annual labor force statistics such as the unemployment rate.
- Analyze BLS methodologies for validity and reliability.
- Help respond to inquiries on LAUS methodology used to produce reports.
- Draft press releases, analytical narratives, statistical tables, and graphs.
- Create maps using specialized mapping software (eg, ArcGIS, R, and Tableau) to represent labor force statistics data.
- Assists with the annual computation of Areas of Substantial Unemployment (ASU) for submittal to BLS.
- Assist with the annual computation of allocation tables for disbursement of federal funds.
- Review new and modified BLS-sponsored processing systems and methodologies.
- Advance Microsoft Excel skills
- Microsoft Access skills
- Statistical analysis skills

- Standard workdays are Monday through Friday. Hours are between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
- Travel may be required for business purposes.
- In-state trainings and all-staff meetings are approximately three to four times a year.
- Out of state conferences are about once every two years
- Completion of undergraduate core program in social or behavioral science to include 1 course in parametric statistics (eg, regression analysis; normal distribution; analysis of variance; link relative).
- At least 24 mos. trg. or 24 mos. exp. in application of social research methods which included 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in computer operations (eg, Microsoft Office; Microsoft Access; Statistical Access; Statistical Analysis System [SAS]; Statistical Package for Social Sciences [SPSS]).
- At least 4 years experience in social or behavioral science which included 2 years experience in application of social research methods
- At least 6 months experience in operation of computer operations (eg, Microsoft Office; Microsoft Access; Statistical Access; Statistical Analysis System [SAS]; Statistical Package for Social Sciences [SPSS]).
- At least 1 year experience as Labor Market Analyst 2, 66332.
- The equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for employment noted above.

What You'll Do
Working TitleLead Labor Market Analyst
In this position, you will be part of the Bureau of Labor Market Information (LMI). LMI is responsible for producing employment statistics and projections under the direction of the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
The lead analyst for the LAUS Program works independently and reports to the Labor Market Program Supervisor in the Labor Force Statistics section.

Pay Information
This position is in the State of Ohio's OCSEA Pay Schedule, Pay Range 31. Unless required by legislation or union contract, starting salary will be the minimum salary of that pay range (step 1, currently $25.45 per hour). These ranges provide a standardized Pathway for pay increases. With continued employment, new hires move to the next step in the range after 6 months and annually thereafter. Cost of Living Adjustments increase wages in these ranges each fiscal year. The current step progression wages are in the table below.
