    Research Administrative Services (RAS) is the administrative hub that manages various OVPRI centers and institutes.

    This position is part of the RAS team and will support several centers and institutes with an emphasis on the Center for Translational Neuroscience (CTN) and the Center on Brain Injury Research and Training (CBIRT).

    CTN is comprised of psychologists and neuroscientists who have pooled their expertise to improve mental and physical health across the lifespan.

    CBIRT is a group that conducts research and training aimed at improving the lives of people with traumatic brain injury (TBI).

    Position Summary

    We seek a highly motivated, organized, and communicative individual to provide high-level research administrative support. The Research Administrative Coordinator (RAC) will be responsible for a broad set of administrative and financial assignments. This position provides research administration, grant and contract management, and unit-level financial services to research-active faculty and their affiliates.


    The RAC works closely with principal investigators throughout the award life cycle, with an emphasis on budgeting, financial and accounting activity, and financial monitoring.

    They will manage the post-award process including coordinating the submission of progress reports to sponsors, processing complex transactions, providing guidance on compliance questions, and responding to sponsor requests for additional materials.

    This position will also engage in pre-award functions such as establishing deadlines and monitoring progress leading up to proposal submission.


    The successful candidate will have a strong customer service focus, be able to work independently and as part of a team to meet shared and individual goals, and demonstrate the ability to be flexible, adaptable, and responsive.

    In addition, the successful candidate will have the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds and will maintain the highest ethical standards.


    The RAC will have or develop a comprehensive knowledge of University of Oregon grant administration policies and practices, as well as the ability to independently interpret and communicate state, federal, and sponsor policies pertaining to the administration of sponsored research.

    This position will interact regularly with external constituents, administrative colleagues, faculty, students, and sponsors in the public and private sector.

    This position will report directly to the RAS Assistant Director for Administration, and will play an essential role in supporting the administrative hub.

    This position is eligible to work a hybrid or remote work schedule.

    Minimum Requirements


    RAC 1:

    • Two (2) years of professional experience focused on research administration, administration of sponsored programs, and/or writing grant proposals, or related administrative or compliance work. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

    RAC 2:

    • Bachelor's degree

    AND

    • Three (3) years of professional experience focused on research administration, administration of sponsored programs, and/or writing grant proposals.
    OR


    • Five (5) years of professional experience focused on research administration or other regulatory compliance in an active research setting.
    Professional Competencies


    • Knowledge of governmental and granting agency regulations pertaining to grants and contracts.
    • Ability to research, read, interpret, and apply complex and varying regulations.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities with overlapping deadlines and frequent interruptions while maintaining a high level of customer service.
    • Demonstrated ability to provide solution-oriented customer service.
    • Strong organizational and analytical skills with close attention to detail.
    • Strong writing and editing skills.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, as well as exercise diplomacy and discretion.
    • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
    • Demonstrated ability to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds as well as to develop knowledge of, respect for, those from a broad array of cultures and backgrounds.
    • Proficiency with multiple forms of information technology, including web-based, word processing, data entry, managing electronic information, and database administration.
    Preferred Qualifications


    • Experience with National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded research programs.
    • Experience with federal funding agencies (e.g. National Science Foundation, Office of Naval Research, National Laboratories).
    • Two (2) or more years of experience in developing, editing, and reviewing proposals, budgets, grants, and/or contracts for adherence to state and federal regulations.
    • Professional certification related to positions (CRA, CPRA, or CFRA), or a Bachelor's or advanced degree in Research Administration, Business Administration, Management, Public Administration or a closely-related field.
    • One (1) or more years of project management experience related to research or grant administration in higher education, research organizations or a related environment.
    • Experience with budget and financial management, with fund accounting experience.
    • Experience with Microsoft Office and other software programs including: HRIS/FIS platforms/databases, Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, and Google Docs.
    • Experience with grant management software (NIH Commons, , etc.).
