    We are looking for a Dean of Students to join the team

    Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor's degree in an area relevant to restorative justice, or education. Associate's Degree in Communications or Social Sciences and five years of experience directing activities related to student services, admissions, health services, and social programs for students.
    • Management and supervisory skills and/or training experience.
    • Knowledge of adolescent behavior issues and psychology.
    • Knowledge of community agencies/programs serving youth and families.
    • Position requires a strong, blended background in office administration, positive youth development with vision to accommodate the goals of the school.
    Duties/Responsibilities:
    • Assist the Principal in the resolution of discipline problems and maintain records of any action taken to ensure that the discipline policy is administered in a fair and just manner and that an optimum learning environment is maintained.
    • Collaborate with the faculty in the enforcement and implementation of the rules and other regulations of the student code of conduct to effect positive student behavior in the school.
    • Liaison for Youth On Their Own Program
    • Supervise the development, implementation, distribution and orientation of the student handbooks to ensure that the students are familiar with the policies and procedures of the high school.
    • Provide documentation and suggestions to the Principal regarding the discipline of any student to inform the principal in determining the disciplinary action to be administered to the student.
    • Oversee all matters of student attendance, coordinate outreach to students and families and make recommendations to the principal for resolution of chronic attendance problems.
    • Responsible for school tours and orientation sessions for new families.
    • Responsible for inter-agency referrals and communication with judicial representatives.
    • Develop and maintain a liaison with community and governmental agencies in regard to problems relating to drug and alcohol abuse, truancy, homelessness, mental health initiatives and other social and disciplinary issues.
    • Collaborates with the Principal to project staff needs, facility needs, capital equipment needs and other cost items for division improvement.
    • Assist with the dissemination of information regarding school programs, policies and procedures in order to keep the various publics served by the school aware of the school's activities.
    • Help to supervise the arrival and departure of students in order to minimize confusion and to ensure student safety.
    • Serve on committees and other groups charged to enhance safety and emergency preparedness.
    • Help supervise all extended-day academic activities.
    • Responsible for coordinating translations and interpretations for all school communications as appropriate.
    • Maintains a positive climate for staff and students.
    • Attends meetings as assigned and prepares reports as requested.
    • Coordinate with Principal to facilitate program objectives.
    • Performs audit review of all student enrollment packets to ensure registrar requirements are met.
    • Meets with parents regarding disciplinary hearings, etc. and act as a liaison between parent, student and teacher/administrator.
    • Responsible for developing priority lists and rationales on school safety and discipline issues for discussion with the Principal and the Teaching Team.
    • Responsible for conducting surveys of students, parent and teacher needs and interests.
    • Oversees the coordination of parent education events and parent volunteers.
    • Responsible for creating and publishing school newsletters and other forms of communication.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.
    Skills and Abilities:
    • Must possess highly developed problem solving, analytical, and facilitation skills.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to promote thoughts and ideas to all levels of the organization.
    • Ability to be a self-starter and take initiative with timely follow-through.
    • Ability to work with youth and parents.
    • Proficient in interpreting raw data into graphs or other visual aids.
    • Able to create basic tables and spreadsheets.
    • Possess the ability to complete projects independently as well as in a team environment.
    • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with people of varied social, cultural and educational backgrounds.
    • Ability to perform recurring tasks while maintaining accuracy.
    • Proficient computers skills including Microsoft Office, databases, and spreadsheets.
    • Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
    • Must be able to use the following equipment: personal computer, including spreadsheet, word processing; telephone; switchboard; calculator; typewriter; and copy machine.
    • Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred.
    • Ability to work a flexible work schedule, including some evenings, and weekends.
    • Must be able to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license and become insurable.
    • Must be able to obtain an IVP Fingerprint clearance card.
