    The Ohio State University College of Medicine's Department of Urology is seeking an exceptional and innovative scholar to lead a nationally recognized program as the Residency Program Director. The faculty position is full-time on the tenure or clinical track, with rank and salary commensurate with education and experience. The Program Director will devote 25% of their effort to this educational role. The successful candidate is a nationally respected educator and researcher whose scholarly work has impact in or implications for the field of Urology. Demonstrated experience as a mentor is required.

    The Program Director is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of the urology residency program while emphasizing the development and implementation of educational curricular and research initiatives in collaboration with a full-time program coordinator and a dedicated Educational Scientist. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the advancement of urologic education and to shape the future of urologists through innovative educational research.

    The OSU residency recently increased its resident complement to four trainees per year in our five-year program; currently there are 17 residents within the training program. In addition to surgical training, our residents actively engage in teaching and scholarship.

    Successful Candidate Qualifications:

    • MD, DO or equivalent
    • Residency trained in Urology within an ACGME accredited program
    • Board certified in Urology; general urology or sub-specialty practice is acceptable
    • Licensed or license eligible to practice medicine in the state of Ohio
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with residents, faculty members, and other stakeholders
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
    • Commitment to maintaining high standards of resident education and fostering a positive learning environment
    • Previous leadership or administrative experience in a urology residency program or medical education setting is preferred
    • Demonstrated expertise and experience in educational research, with a track record of publications and presentations in the field is preferred

    Responsibilities of this committed leader include:

    • Program administration
      • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the urology residency program, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards and educational requirements in conjunction with our full time Program Administrator
      • Develop and revise program policies and procedures in alignment with national guidelines and evolving educational research standards
      • Collaborate with faculty members and residency program staff to optimize resident training experiences and educational outcomes
      • Coordinate the recruitment, selection, and evaluation processes for residents; provide ongoing mentorship and career guidance
    • Curriculum development and evaluation
      • Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive urology residency curriculum that integrates educational research principles and evidence-based teaching methods
      • Collaborate with faculty members to develop innovative educational tools, including online resources, simulation programs, and interactive workshops
      • Regularly assess the effectiveness of the curriculum, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes to enhance resident learning
    • Mentorship and professional development
      • Provide mentorship and guidance to residents interested in educational research
      • Facilitate opportunities for scholarly activities, such as research projects, presentations at national conferences, and publication of educational research findings
      • Support residents in their pursuit of additional educational degrees, fellowships, and research opportunities
    • Educational scholarship
      • In association with our doctorally prepared Educational Scientist, design and conduct educational research projects, including needs assessments, curriculum development, and evaluation studies
      • Foster a culture of discovery and scholarship among residents and faculty members, encouraging their active participation in research activities
      • Stay abreast of the latest developments and best practices in urologic education research and apply them to enhance the program's educational offerings
    • Collaboration and partnerships
      • Foster collaborations with internal and external stakeholders, including other departments, academic institutions, and professional organizations, to promote educational research and enhance the program's educational resources
      • Represent the urology residency program at national and international conferences and forums related to educational research
      • In collaboration with our Educational Scientist, seek external funding opportunities to support educational research initiatives and program development
