    Senior Performance Testing Engineer at Pearson in Boise, Idaho,

    United States Job Description Summary:

    As a Software Performance Testing Engineer at Pearson you will play a pivotal role in guaranteeing the robustness and scalability of our software applications.

    You will work closely with our development and quality assurance teams to design and execute performance tests, analyze results, and identify areas for improvement.

    This requisition is part of the Pearson/MZD team, which develops innovative assessment technology platforms.

    One of the team's primary responsibilities is supporting a number of technology platforms that deliver exams to test takers, score and report results.

    We are now in the midst of building our next generation assessment platform, which is a multi-year project with enormous strategic value, leveraging state of the art technologies and processes.

    We are looking for outstanding candidates to bolster the staff of this critical project.

    The Pearson/MZD development team is comprised of a small group of inspired developers that thrive on developing cutting edge applications, with a passion for innovation and pride in producing excellent user experiences.

    Since the business provides a mission-critical service to a demanding set of clients, high-quality performance is required to meet customer expectations.


    The Software Performance Testing Engineer key responsibilities include:
    + Performance Test Planning:
    Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand software requirements and design performance test plans that address both functional and non-functional aspects

    + Test Environment Setup:

    Assist and collaborate with product engineer teams to create and maintain test environments that closely mirror production settings to accurately simulate real-world scenarios +

    Performance Testing:
    Execute performance tests using a variety of tools and frameworks to evaluate software under different load conditions, including stress testing, load testing, and scalability testing

    + Performance Monitoring:

    Implement monitoring tools to continuously track the performance of the software during testing, pinpoint bottlenecks, and gather relevant performance metrics

    + Analysis and Reporting:

    Analyze test results, identify performance issues, and work with developers to pinpoint the root causes. Generate comprehensive test reports with clear, actionable recommendations.


    • Optimization:
    Collaborate with the development team to optimize code and configuration settings to improve software performance + Automation: Develop and maintain automated performance test suites for regression testing and continuous integration

    + Scalability Testing:

    Assess software scalability by performing tests that simulate growth in user load and data volume over time

    + Security Testing:

    Work with security experts to ensure the software's performance under various security scenarios, including penetration testing and DDoS attack simulations

    + CI/CD Tool Expertise:

    Demonstrate a deep understanding and hands-on experience with a variety of CI/CD tools

    + Documentation:

    Maintain detailed documentation of test plans, test cases, and test results

    + Stay Current:

    Keep up-to-date with industry best practices, emerging tools, and trends related to performance testing and quality assurance


    Required Education and Experience:
    + Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (Master's degree is a plus years in performance testing web applications + Strong knowledge of performance testing tools such as JMeter, LoadRunner, Gatling, and others. + Proficiency in scripting and programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, or similar). + Familiarity with performance monitoring tools and APM solutions. + Experience with cloud-based testing and cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure). + Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. + Strong communication and teamwork skills. + ISTQB or similar certifications are a plus.


    Current Application Tech Stack:
    + AWS hosted applications + Go, Javascript/Typesript, VueJS, Python, Postgres, MongoDB Compensation at Pearson is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location.

    As required by the Colorado, California, Washington State, New York State and New York City laws, the pay range for this position is as follows:
    The minimum full-time salary range is between $100k - $125k. This position is eligible to participate in an annual incentive program, and information on benefits offered is here.
