    Position Summary
    This position manages and oversees the DEI component of the Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) within the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center (UNMCCC). This Office is a critical component of the P30 CCSG and works to achieve diversity of membership, leadership, staff and advisory boards within the UNMCCC by harnessing the unique opportunities to enhance diversity within our catchment area. This goal will be achieved in part by the recruitment of diverse and underrepresented personnel at all levels, the creation of leadership training initiatives and career advancement infrastructures, recruiting diverse faculty, cross-department integration of diversity efforts, and the establishment of criteria for monitoring and evaluating progress of diversity programs.

    Position Duties/Responsibilities:

    · Work closely with the Associate Director (AD) of DEI and faculty leaders to strategically identify and plan for opportunities that will enhance the effectiveness of this office within the Cancer Center and HSC, Main Campus communities and in the broader New Mexico area.

    · Work closely with the Associate Directors of Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) and Cancer Research, Training and Education Coordination Core (CRTECC) to develop goals and implement initiatives to promote and support diversity while fulfilling the mandates of both of these offices as required by NIH in support of the CCSG.

    · Assist the AD of DEI to develop and implement diversity strategies, utilize catchment area opportunities, support cancer related career-enhancing opportunities, develop and initiate infrastructure to establish cancer related career pathways for individuals from diverse backgrounds, establish criteria and processes for monitoring and evaluating the progress of diversity initiatives, promote policies and processes that enable and support a diverse and inclusive workplace within the cancer center

    · Maintain thorough understanding of NCI CCSG guidelines and develop and implement strategies to meet/exceed them; develop and analyze various datasets, utilizing them to set benchmarks and goals and to make recommendations to Center senior leaders;

    · Documenting and reporting on all Cancer Center DEI initiatives and programmatic activities; Assist in the development and managing budgets for DEI initiatives ensuring responsible utilization of resources; drafting and maintaining policies and guidelines in relation to DEI initiatives; contributing to and supporting the drafting of the Plan to Enhance Diversity.

    · Work closely with the AD of on the P30 annual progress reports as well annual budget prep and maintenance for DEI.

    · In partnership with UNMCCC leadership and the AD for DEI, provide strategic direction for training initiatives on cultural competency, gender differences, disability, sexual harassment, building a climate of equity and inclusion, and other topics designed to increase awareness and support of equity and inclusion values.

    · Collaborate with UNMCCC leadership to create, implement and monitor programs designed to address equity, diversity and inclusion in the cancer research community, including faculty researchers, trainees, and staff.

    · Partner with ADs of COE and CRTECC to create programs and communications designed to increase diversity and inclusion awareness within the cancer research community.

    · Serve as a change agent, thought-leader, influencer and subject matter expert to strategically develop and implement DEI focused initiatives and activities geared toward educating, informing and bringing together cancer research in the catchment area.

    · The Manager should have a personal drive for excellence and a commitment to the Cancer Center's mission.

    · Possible supervisory duties as related to staffing in this office. Oversee staffing as necessary for the DEI team.

    Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    · Experience building or supporting DEI programs and/or initiatives

    · Experience providing support to faculty in leadership roles and problem solving in a complex environment that spans multiple departments and organizations

    · Experience with program oversight and development

    · Ability to work independently and as part of a team

    · Self-starting and motivated

    · Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with senior leaders, administrators, faculty, staff, students, and others.

    · Ability to bring together diverse stakeholders and personalities, present a vision, gain buy-in, and then facilitate successful collaboration between all involved.

    · Demonstrated analytical skills to identify and define issues and alternatives, to resolve problems, create sound solutions where none have existed and improve processes. Ability to make recommendations for improvements and implement them.

    · Ability to independently prioritize and organize projects through multiple phases. Ability to meet deadlines and follow through on multiple projects and tasks simultaneously with careful attention to detail and accuracy. Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral), specifically as it relates to communicating to a variety of internal and external stakeholders about diversity, equity and inclusion

    · Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software

    The University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center is the Official Cancer Center of New Mexico and the only National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center in a 500-mile radius. Its 146 board-certified oncology specialty physicians include cancer surgeons in every specialty (abdominal, thoracic, bone and soft tissue, neurosurgery, genitourinary, gynecology, and head and neck cancers), adult and pediatric hematologists/medical oncologists, gynecologic oncologists, and radiation oncologists. They, along with more than 600 other cancer healthcare professionals (nurses, pharmacists, nutritionists, navigators, psychologists and social workers), provide treatment to 65% of New Mexico's cancer patients from all across the state and partner with community health systems statewide to provide cancer care closer to home. They treated 13,578 patients in 105,748 ambulatory clinic visits in addition to in-patient hospitalizations at UNM Hospital. A total of 1361 patients participated in cancer clinical trials, including %) patients who participated in clinical trials testing new cancer treatments that include tests of novel cancer prevention strategies and cancer genome sequencing. The more than 102 cancer research scientists affiliated with the UNMCCC were awarded $36.2 million in federal and private grants and contracts for cancer research projects. Since 2015, they have published 930 manuscripts, and promoting economic development, they filed 136 new patents and launched 10 new biotechnology start-up companies. Finally, the physicians, scientists and staff have provided education and training experiences to more than 530 high school, undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral fellowship students in cancer research and cancer health care delivery.     Minimum Qualifications
    High school diploma or GED; at least 2 years of experience managing at least one of the following functional areas: fiscal services, administration and/or human resources AND 3 years of additional experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

    Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

    Preferred Qualifications
    · Proficient in: Smartsheets and Advarra Eval

    · Experienced in SOP development

    · Experience with surveys and data collection

    · Knowledge of university purchasing policies
