    The University opened its Okanagan campus in 2005 as a bold new UBC presence in the interior of British Columbia, designed to deliver on the promise of a research-intensive institution purpose-built for the 21st century.

    Over the past 18 years, UBCs Okanagan campus has developed a distinctive learning community earning national and international recognition for excellence in research and teaching. The campus is home to approximately 12,000 undergraduate and graduate students, 688 faculty members, over 1,200 staff, and 9 world-class Faculties and Schools. Annual research funding has increased over 290% in the last decade. With over 1,100 active research projects last year, the Okanagan campus is establishing itself as an important and respected centre of learning and research and as a driver of economic and social development in the Interior of BC.

    The Faculties on the Okanagan campus include Engineering, Education, Creative and Critical Studies, Arts, Sciences, Management, Health and Social Development, Graduate Studies, and the Southern Medical Program, along with research institutes related to community engaged research, inclusion and citizenship, healthy living, materials and manufacturing, and biodiversity.

    Reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor & Principal of the Okanagan Campus, and to the Vice-President Research and Innovation for UBC, the Vice-Principal, Research, provides strategic direction and oversight to UBC Okanagans expansive research enterprise. The Vice-Principal is an integral member of both the senior leadership team for the Okanagan campus, and the senior team in UBCs system-wide Vice-President Research office. The Vice-Principal, alongside the Principal, Provost (Okanagan), and campus Deans will play a critical leadership role in advancing towards the goals set out in the Okanagans long-term vision, Outlook

    The ideal candidate will be appointable as a professor at UBC and bring a passion for research across a range of fields. You will bring administrative experience in a research- intensive university having sat on cross-campus committees and in institutional or research leadership roles, such as Associate Dean or Director of an Institute or Centre. The ideal candidate will bring strong relationship building skills and an open and collaborative approach. In support of UBCs vision, and to promote the overall economic and social development of the region, the Vice-Principal will be a visible leader in the community, building productive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and research partners.

    UBCs Okanagan campus is located on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Syilx Okanagan Nation. The campus sits on over 200 hectares in a region that has 5 of Canadas largest ski resorts, 200 freshwater lakes, 30 beaches, and 2,000 hours of sunshine annually.
