Job Description
Join the Army National Guard as a Fire Support Specialist and be part of an elite field artillery team. Provide crucial intelligence to support infantry and tank units in combat operations while mastering sought-after skills beneficial for your civilian career.
Acting as the Forward Observer, Fire Support Specialists serve as the eyes of an artillery unit, responsible for target acquisition and relaying information to artillery units across all levels. This role will enhance your communication skills as you establish, maintain, and operate communication equipment; handle laser range finders; encode and decode messages; aid in preparing fire support plans; and determine target locations using technology or manual calculations.
With increasing skills, advanced team members supervise and train other Soldiers, prepare observer target lists, initiate suppressive fire, and manage observation posts.

Moreover, the skills acquired as a Fire Support Specialist can pave the way for a fulfilling civilian career in computer consulting, information technology support, or data processing.
Earn While You Learn
Gain practical experience and receive payment for training, instead of paying to acquire these skills. The Army National Guard offers paid training, allowing you to develop valuable job skills while earning a regular salary and qualifying for tuition aid.
Upon completion of 10 weeks of Basic Training focusing on fundamental Soldiering skills, further training of six weeks in Advanced Individual Training (AIT) will follow. AIT involves a mix of hands-on and classroom learning, covering topics such as pinpoint target computation, safe ammunition handling, system operations, and artillery strategies.
