- Leads team of EVS technicians for completion of routine and specialized work assignments such as floor maintenance, terminal cleaning, room turnover, and other tasks not specifically mentioned in this job description.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of healthcare cleaning and disinfection principles, proper and safe chemical use, equipment handling, for all items within the patient care environment.
- Performs routine cleaning and custodial tasks as assigned or according to published schedule.
- Cleans and disinfect restrooms and replenish supplies; clean and disinfect water fountains.
- Ensures assigned EVS cart is fully stocked and maintained in a neat and orderly manner.
- Accountable for maintaining all appropriate logs, checklists, and work orders as accurate and current.
- Responsible for cleaning and disinfection of equipment and all areas of assignment according to procedures and manufacturer recommendations.
- Demonstrates working knowledge of cleaning and disinfection requirements specific to highly sensitive environments, such as areas used for invasive procedures, or wound care.
- Demonstrates understanding of training and education related to evidenced based recommendations from Association for Professionals in Infection Control (APIC), CDC, The Joint Commission (TJC) and other regulatory bodies.
- Actively participates in departmental performance improvement activities, including but not limited to initiatives to improve patient experience and cleanliness metrics.
- Removes waste and transports to appropriate disposal area while identifying proper waste streams (regulated medical waste, hazardous materials, etc.)
- Follows all environmental and infection prevention practices (proper cleaning and disinfection protocols and process, hand hygiene, standard and isolation precautions, as well as donning and doffing personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Practice critical thinking skills to include prioritization of duties and immediate needs and requests for self and assigned teams.
- Serves as senior EVS team member and mentors other EVS staff to help develop a functional EVS team.
- Assist and train EVS staff in proper cleaning and disinfection procedures for standard and specialty care spaces, hand hygiene, floor maintenance, standard and isolation precautions, waste streams and waste disposal, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including donning and doffing.
- Demonstrates working knowledge of occupational health and safety requirements as applicable for EVS activities.
- Assists in onboarding new EVS staff as directed by EVS Supervision.
- May fill in for higher leadership as assigned by departmental management.

- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Certified Health Care Environmental Services Technician (CHEST) or equivalent is preferred.
- Knowledge of materials, methods, equipment, and procedures used in disinfecting and cleaning the healthcare environment.
- One (1) year of healthcare environmental services technician experience is required.
- Must be able to demonstrate effective use of computers and or mobile devices for daily job performance activities.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing and candidly, creates an environment where co-workers and team members reciprocate in kind.
- Ability to operate vacuum cleaners, buffers, and other healthcare environmental maintenance equipment
- Ability to exercise care in the use of cleaning materials for different types of surfaces
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to work effectively with other employees and staff
- Ability to occasionally perform heavy manual work
- Ability to pass background check and drug screen
- Must be willing to pursue training as directed by your supervisor; must be willing to cross-train in all functional areas of Environmental Services.
- Must be willing to attend training and maintain professional certifications related to Environmental Services.
- Normal to heavy office work (ability to lift 30-50 lbs. and at times over 50 lbs.)

Description
Job Purpose and Position Overview:
The Environmental Services (EVS) Technician II will lead teams to care for routine and specialty tasks such as floor maintenance, terminal cleaning, general disinfection, etc. and ensure that the assigned work is completed in accordance with hospital infection control standards. The EVS Technician II is responsible for providing a safe care environment for patients and staff (visitors as appropriate to setting) within WCHS Twelve Clans Unity Hospital. This is achieved by demonstrating the principles of cleaning, disinfection and quality assurance toward the reduction of harmful pathogens for the benefit of patients, visitors and staff. The EVS Technician II will assist in the education and mentoring other EVS staff in the proper cleaning methods and procedures used for maintaining infection control standards. While executing assigned EVS tasks, the EVS Technician II will have contact with patients, visitors, and staff. Contact may include physical, psychological, educational, or safety related interactions in which the EVS Technician II shall demonstrate WCHS's core mission, vision, and values.
