    The Assistant Director of Grants Development is a newly-created position in the Grants Office. This collegial and fast-paced office consists of a two-person Grants Development team and a three-person Grants Management team. The Assistant Director of Grants Development will report to the Director of Grants Development and be engaged in the development and submission of state, federal and foundation proposals in support of a wide range of college projects, including: curricular initiatives; student scholarships; student support services; and other initiatives connected to BHCC's Strategic Plans: The Assistant Director's responsibilities will be primarily focused on new, continuation, or renewal opportunities from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and they will support the development of federal proposals. The Assistant Director will also work with the Grants team to communicate Grants policies to faculty, staff, and administrators. Approximately 30% of the Associate Director's time will be spent overseeing the College's Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education grant, an annual grant supporting improvement of the college's career and technical education programs.

    The Assistant Director of Grants Development will serve as a liaison among the Grants Office and:

    • College Administrators and their staff (the President, CFO, Provost and Associate Provosts, Deans, etc.);
    • College faculty;
    • Grant coordinators/directors/grant leads (PIs) and their departments;
    • The Business Office;
    • The Institutional Research and Assessment Office;
    • Integrated Marketing and Communications;
    • The BHCC Foundation; and
    • External partners and funders

    Examples of Duties:

    • Under the supervision of the Director of Grants Development, play a key role in writing and editing proposals, proposal budgets, and reports for responsiveness to Requests for Proposals. Ensure compliance with applicable federal, State, local, foundation and/or college policies and regulations;
    • Support faculty and staff in preparing proposal materials for submission, including but not limited to: writing and editing narrative sections of proposals; drafting project budgets; drafting work plans and timelines; completing proposal applications; and drafting Memoranda of Understanding and letters of support;
    • Assist with forecasting future funding from existing and potential funders. Assess alignment with BHCC's Strategic Plan(s) and work with the Executive Director of Grants and Director of Grants Development to prioritize the pursuit of grant proposals and projects that increase capacity in strategic areas;
    • Assist with proposal submission through the GEM$ and EdGrants portals of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as well as other grant portals, including ;
    • Perkins grant: Oversee the Perkins grant, including drafting the annual proposal, facilitating the spending down of the grant budget, drafting and submitting grant reports, convening the internal Perkins advisory committee two-to-three times annually, and attending Perkins grant-related convenings; and
    • Work with grant coordinators to develop sustainability plans for grant-funded projects after grants end.
    Job Requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree, three years or more years professional experience, including two or more years of grant writing and/or foundation development experience, preferably in a higher education setting;
    • Strong proposal writing and editing skills;
    • Experience with drafting and managing budgets;
    • Attention to detail;
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-focused environment;
    • Ability to work independently;
    • Evidence of relationship-building or project management skills; and
    • Ability to relate to and understand the needs of a multicultural faculty, staff, and student population and to work effectively with a broad range of internal and external constituents.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Business, or other applicable field;
    • Four or more years of grant writing experience and pre-award grants and/or foundation development experience, preferably in a higher education setting; and
    • Experience working at a public higher education institution, particularly at a community college.
    • Experience with state and/or federal government pre-award grant development and post-award grant management.

    Additional Information:

    Salary Range: $75,000.00-$80,000.00, commensurate with education and experience.
