    The Department of Public Works & Transportation (DPW&T) is currently seeking a highly qualified applicant to fill the Alternative Fuel Program Specialist (Transit) (Engineering Technician 3A)position in the Office of Transportation Division.About the Position:
    Reporting to the Section Chief, Fleet and Facilities, the Alternative Fuel Coordinator is responsible for the daily oversight and strategic planning, coordination and monitoring of the transit Zero Emission Bus (ZEB) program operated by the Department of Public Works & Transportation. The position is responsible for supporting programs and initiatives that promote alternative fuel vehicles and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. These programs include all aspects of vehicle operations, charging operability, and general maintenance as well as activities related to facility infrastructure design and usage. The position will coordinate across multiple departments to provide input and recommendations based on data analysis and best practices to allow DPW&T to operate the ZEB fleet, and other alternative fueled buses in the most efficient manner possible.
    Examples of Work

    What You'll Do:
    • Monitors zero emission bus operation and maintenance, including charging/fueling strategies and provide recommendations to operations/maintenance contractor for managing associated utility costs to the County.
    • Observes and reports the state of alternative fuel fleet and facility (microgrid) maintenance program.
    • Develops vehicle/equipment specifications and make recommendations based on data analysis of the electric bus program operation.
    • Investigates service issues with alternative fuel program, monitors field location corrective measures.
    • Performs analysis of alternative fuel program usage and trends.
    • Develops and maintains alternative fuel asset management plan.
    • Assists supervisor to develop fiscal recommendation for annual program budgets.
    • Provides oversight and audit of inventory related to vehicle maintenance.
    • Monitors use of equipment and inspects equipment, vehicles and office areas, and recommends maintenance services as required.
    Qualifications

    What You'll Need:
    • High School Diploma or GED, supplemented by college level courses in higher mathematics (algebra, trigonometry, geometry) and civil engineering plus,
    • Four (4) years of para-professional engineering experience.
    Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • The Alternative Fuel Coordinator requires skills in project management, data analysis and technical writing including a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering, environmental science, public administration or related field.
    • 2+ years' experience in multi modal transit operations or transportation service is essential.
    • Experienced Master Electrician and/or Project Management Professional (PMP), Renewable Energy Professional (REP), or clean energy certification.
    • 3+ years project budget management experience.
    • Ability to be detail-oriented and be proficient with data analysis, spreadsheet usage and technical writing. Ability to work independently under general supervision.
    • Ability to exercise independent judgement and to keep information confidential; organize complex materials and manage multiple projects; maintain accurate records; gather, interpret, analyze, evaluate, and present a variety of data, solve problems and present alternatives. Skills in building relationships with stakeholders.
    • Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. Experience with a fleet maintenance management system, preferably M5.
    • Strong interpersonal skills to foster teamwork and create positive connections with customers.
    • Ability to meet goals to increase efficiency improving customer service.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Upon selection, the candidate must:

    •Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

    •Be willing to participate as an "essential" employee in the Department's Snow and Ice Control Program and other emergency operations as assigned.

    General Plan Information:

    The Prince George's County benefits plan year is from January 1 to December 31.

    A spouse (to include a same sex spouse) can be added to the health benefit plans. A marriage certificate and social security number is required to add a spouse.

    Children under the age of 26 are eligible for coverage under the health benefit plans. This includes stepchildren and children of the same-sex spouse. A birth certificate(s) and social security number(s) is required to add a child(ren). If you are only adding the stepchildren or child(ren) of a same-sex spouse, you will need to submit a marriage certificate. You will also need to submit the birth certificate of the child(ren) and your spouse must be listed as a parent.

    The premiums for health benefits are deducted on a pre-tax basis with the exception of Long-Term Disability, Extra Life Insurance and Voluntary Benefits (Short-Term Disability, Whole Life Insurance, Critical Illness, Accident Insurance, Cancer Indemnity, Hospital Indemnity Protection, Accident Indemnity Plan, Supplemental Dental and Group Legal Services).

    New employees must enroll in the County's health benefit plans within thirty (30) days of the hire date.

    The effective date of the health benefits coverage is the beginning of the month following a waiting period of forty-five (45) days from the date of hire.

    After enrolling in the County's benefit plans, employees may only make changes to the plans either during the open enrollment period, which occurs annually (usually each October), and/or during the year, due to a family status change (i.e., marriage, births, divorce and adoption).
