    Housed in the Division of Student Affairs, THRIVE is a collection of programs all designed to foster achievement, belonging, mentorship, and the transition to Bowdoin for first-generation and low-income students. THRIVE programs work to transform the college experience from one that students simply survive into a time in which they thrive.
    The Assistant Director will create programming and initiatives, to support students in all THRIVE programs. They will oversee programmatic aspect of the Bowdoin Science Experience Program, Chamberlin Scholars Program, THRIVE's Alumni Network and will co-lead college wide first-gen programming. The Assistant Director will play a critical role in assisting and running the Geoffrey Canada Scholars Program—THRIVE'S flagship program—a two-year cohort experience that includes a Summer Institute for incoming first years. The Assistant Director will have a significant part in the continued development of THRIVE, as it leads the way in long-term transformational change at Bowdoin.
    Essential Functions:
    • Oversee programmatic aspects of the Bowdoin Science Experience Program, Chamberlin Scholars Program, and THRIVE's Alumni Network.
    • Plan and execute programming for students across the THRIVE community, including workshops, fun activities, and off-site events; partner with offices across campus to ensure programming addresses student needs.
    • Assist in planning and executing the Geoffrey Canada Scholars Program, including co-leading the Summer Institute.
    • Co-lead college wide first-gen programming with THRIVE staff and the student advisory board.
    • Work closely with students providing informal advising and check-ins and partner with the Office of Dean of Students to support student's needs
    • Represent the office across campus as needed. Act as liaison between other offices and THRIVE.

    Benefits and Pay:

    • Salary range: $63,000 (minimum) – $73,000 (maximum) based on experience.
    • As full-time administrative employee of the College, the position is eligible for a comprehensive benefits package.

    Education/Skills Requirements
    Required:
    • Bachelor's degree
    • Ability to create and design programming based on the goals of THRIVE.
    • Knowledge of the needs of first-generation and low-income students
    • Familiarity with an asset-based framework for responsive and creative problem-solving.
    • Exceptional public speaking and writing skills.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Fluency in the Microsoft 365 suite and willingness to quickly learn new applications and software.

    Preferred:

    • Master's degree
    • Multilingual skills
    • Fluency in Spanish


    Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents
    Required:
    • 1 – 3 years of related experience supervising student leaders or student employees.

    Preferred:

    • 4 – 7 years of related experience supervising student leaders or student employees.
    • Experience in college access, college persistence, and/or higher education.


    Standard Work Days and Hours
    • 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday with occasional evening and/or weekend hours.
    • This is an exempt position requiring time commitment necessary to satisfactorily complete job requirements.
