- Participate in ongoing training and support processes for ESL, Citizenship, and IELCE locally, regionally, and nationally for updates and related professional development opportunities.
- Work closely with CSDE, educators, administrators, and national consultants to coordinate efforts and ensure a cohesive approach to language education.
- Establish continuous communication with the ESL, Citizenship, and IELCE fields, keeping abreast of developments in language acquisition, educational technology, and teaching methodologies to improve and update their teaching practices continuously.
- Provide direct support to ESL, Citizenship, and IELCE staff in creating lesson plans, instructional materials, and activities to facilitate effective learning, incorporating a variety of teaching methodologies and technologies as they align with the College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) and the English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS).
- Design or recommend customized ESL training that addresses learners' specific needs and goals, considering factors, such as age, proficiency level, and learning styles.
- Provide support for teachers in aligning content to diverse ESL learners and have a solid understanding of developing literacy skills in adult learners.
- Develop and implement specialized training modules specifically tailored to address the unique needs and challenges of adult learners pursuing Citizenship.
- Collaborate with community organizations, local government agencies, and immigration services to strengthen partnerships and streamline resources for Citizenship education initiatives.
- Stay informed about changes in immigration policies and regulations, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information is integrated into Citizenship education programs.
- Stay informed about IELCE services, such as instruction in literacy and English language acquisition, instruction on the rights and responsibilities of citizenship and civic participation, and workforce training.
- Offer individualized coaching sessions for adult learners on topics related to ESL, Citizenship, and IELCE.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of a resource library containing materials and information relevant to ESL, Citizenship, and IELCE.
- Plan and facilitate ESL Advisory Meetings quarterly.
- Provide content for a monthly ESL, Citizenship, and IELCE newsletter.
- Develop and present relevant Professional Development offerings at CAACE and the ATDN Summer Institute.
- Fulfill any additional responsibilities as assigned.

Job Description:
The Adult Training & Development Network (ATDN) is currently seeking an individual to fill the ESL & Citizenship Consultant role.
This role involves offering support to the CT State Department of Education, Academic Office - Adult Education, by providing guidance, assistance, and expertise in English language acquisition for adult non-native speakers as well as specialized support and guidance on matters related to citizenship to individuals navigating the naturalization process.
This multifaceted position requires a dedicated professional with a comprehensive understanding of English language acquisition, Citizenship procedures, and Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education (IELCE) to empower and assist adult learners in their educational journey.
