    Overview:

    OHC - Specialists in Cancer and Blood disorders, is seeking a medical assistant to join our Kenwood practice. As the only independent adult cancer program in the region, we offer Medical, Radiation, Blood and Marrow Transplant, Gynecologic, and Breast Surgical Oncology services. OHC supports a robust cancer research and clinical trials program, neuro-oncology, cancer genetics specialists, and a supportive care program.

    Responsibilities:
    • Accompanying patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment room as needed.
    • Recording patient data before each physician visit, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
    • Collecting all necessary patient records required by the physician before treatments or procedures.
    • Preparing and organizing exam/treatment rooms and managing supplies.
    • Assisting physicians with examinations and procedures upon request.
    • Providing subcutaneous and intramuscular injections as authorized by RN or physician.
    • Maintaining cleanliness protocols in exam/treatment rooms.
    • Handling patient calls and directing them to physicians or nurse/pharmacist as necessary.
    • Managing prescription calls and other patient communications under physician and RN guidance.
    • Notifying physician of patient schedule changes and missed appointments.
    • Performing various administrative tasks such as typing, filing, faxing, and reception duties as assigned by supervisor or physician.
    Qualifications:
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a certified Medical Assistant program is preferred. This entry-level role requires 0-3 years' experience as a medical or nursing assistant. Current BCLS certification is mandatory within 3 months of hiring. Certification as a Medical Assistant is a plus. Some states may have specific certification requirements for Medical Assistant roles.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
    The job involves physical requirements that include patient handling, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Standing and walking for extended periods are necessary, with occasional lifting of items up to 40 lbs. Normal vision and hearing abilities are required.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:
    The work setting may involve exposure to various conditions such as communicable diseases, toxic substances, radiation, and medical preparations common to an oncology/hematology clinic.
