Our **Buyer** is responsible for planning and purchasing component parts to create and maintain optimum inventory levels and to assure the highest quality product and service for the Companys material investment dollar
**SPECIFIC DUTIES:**
Receive purchase requisitions and/or review MRP and stock status for order requirements, determine the supplier, negotiate price, terms, and date of delivery.
Assist in ensuring the Company of lowest purchasing cost by analyzing and negotiating with suppliers and by continually searching for new suppliers.
Expedite and prioritize receipt of material from vendors.
Ensure component specifications from suppliers by consulting with engineering, visiting area manufacturers, and contact with suppliers representatives.
Keep inventory at optimum levels through application of inventory planning techniques consistent with inventory policy, and constantly review obsolete and slow-moving materials for disposition.
Support Manufacturing with parts added through the revision process, review for possible substitution using stock parts and evaluate the stock status of parts deleted on revisions.
Communicate the availability of materials to Manufacturing and Parts Sales in a timely manner.
Coordinate efforts with Engineering and Sales departments as well as outside suppliers to optimize availability.
Ensure timely flow of materials from vendors to avoid production delays by monitoring open orders for timely receipt of material, follow-up with vendor/manufacturer and as necessary with receiving, production control and apprising schedule with regards to parts which cannot meet schedules.
Work with accounting to ensure suppliers are paid correctly.
Assist in handling issues related to materials that dont meet requirements (i.e.: specified incorrectly, damaged, received incorrectly, etc.).
Looking at MRP (Workbench in Avante) - to view parts requirements needed for purchasing
Determine when the parts are needed, quantity, the best supplier
Each part will be evaluated based on when it's needed if it's a regular part or a special part, review the job to see when it will ship in the date log
When is the job going to final to know how to plan the timing of parts and material ordering
Get quotes to compare prices as needed.
The ideal candidate will be able to think through the material need to understand how much and when they need it.
Work with every department in the company, engineering, after-market (parts), quality, accounting, sales, field service, bidding, application engineers, marketing, warehouse,
Follow up on all purchase orders
Ability to plan and be proactive
Research old parts to see where to obtain the best part
Ability to think on their own and ask the right questions. Be proactive.
Strong Internet research skills
Double-check the specs to ensure accurate purchasing
Ensure purchase orders are correct
Working with quality assurance
Other duties and special projects as assigned by the Purchasing Manager.
**REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:**
3+ years of **buying** or inventory control experience.
Able to read engineering drawings and schematics.
Comfortable and effective in interacting with the Engineering Department and Production Control.
Experience with Make-Buy decisions (collect and understand S&L budgeted manufacturing costs vs. outsourced costs).
Knowledge of product components, including quality, price, and availability.
Experience with negotiating price and fabrication costs with vendors.
Ability to negotiate and handle back charges of defective fabrication.
Ability to schedule overall lead times of outsourced fabrications and understand delivery lead times to meet overall job lead times.
Understanding of inspection processes at fabrication vendors (welding, painting, and assembly).
Strong ability to multi-task and handle interruptions with grace.
Strong computer skills.
Bachelor's degree is preferred.
Experience with Manufacturing Resource Programs (MRP) is preferred.
Ability to read blueprints is preferred.
