Finance protects the Morgan Stanley franchise by serving as guardian of the Firms books and records, and by contributing to firmwide risk management and risk reduction. This division maintains relationships with Morgan Stanley's various industry and government regulators, and also serves as the conduit of financial information to the outside investment community. Finance plays a critical role as advisor to Morgan Stanley's various businesses and its senior management team.

This role is part of the Corporate Financial Reporting team, whose primary responsibility is the quarterly production, related analyses and filing with the SEC of Morgan Stanley's consolidated financial reports on Forms 10-K and 10-Q (10-K/Q).

    Responsibilities include:
    • Compiling and analyzing detailed financial and non-financial data for inclusion in the 10-K/Q financial reports.
    • Authoring various portions of the 10-K/Q including: the Institutional Securities, Wealth Management or Investment Management segment results; Liquidity and Capital Resources and Risk Management; and the Financial Statement footnotes, among others.
    • Coordinating and liaising with multiple stakeholders across the Firm, including Treasury, Risk Management, Legal and other Finance functions to obtain information and draft disclosures, directly interfacing with senior management on their feedback and broadly ensuring the 10-K/Q accurately reflects the results of the Firm and the current environment in which it operates.
    • Performing research on U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (U.S. GAAP) and SEC disclosure requirements, peer disclosures and the Firms own disclosure history to enhance, streamline and improve the 10-K/Q.
    • Driving various team priorities, including playing a vocal role in continuously improving the effectiveness and efficiency of our processes and interactions with our internal stakeholders.
    Skills
    • The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience, with a background in Accounting and/or the Financial Services industry, including knowledge of U.S. GAAP as it relates to disclosures and SEC reporting rules.
    • Excellent organizational, presentation and business writing skills are required for this role.
    • A public accounting background or experience in an SEC reporting role is a plus.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word. Knowledge of Workiva's Wdesk reporting tool and extensible business reporting language (XBRL) are a plus, but not required.
Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $70,000 and $105,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.

Morgan Stanley's goal is to build and maintain a workforce that is diverse in experience and background but uniform in reflecting our standards of integrity and excellence. Consequently, our recruiting efforts reflect our desire to attract and retain the best and brightest from all talent pools. We want to be the first choice for prospective employees.
